The subpoena was issued a couple of weeks ago?

That might help explain a bit of panic and uncharacteristic actions from the WH, including the "stern telling off" Russia at the UN, and imposition of sanctions that'll be ineffective as the oligarchs in the US at risk of having their assets seized or frozen have been warned - and had the entire term of Trump's presidency to launder those assets to protect them.  The trade war diversion, the Kim meeting diversion. What a president - MAGA!

This (soft paywall) gives good insight into the "high calibre" person Trump is:

President Trump boasted in a fundraising speech Wednesday that he made up information in a meeting with the leader of a top U.S. ally, saying he insisted to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the United States runs a trade deficit with its neighbor to the north without knowing whether that was true.

“Trudeau came to see me. He’s a good guy, Justin. He said, ‘No, no, we have no trade deficit with you, we have none. Donald, please,’ ” Trump said, mimicking Trudeau, according to audio of the private event in Missouri obtained by The Washington Post. “Nice guy, good-looking guy, comes in — ‘Donald, we have no trade deficit.’ He’s very proud because everybody else, you know, we’re getting killed.

“... So, he’s proud. I said, ‘Wrong, Justin, you do.’ I didn’t even know. ... I had no idea. I just said, ‘You’re wrong.’ You know why? Because we’re so stupid. … And I thought they were smart. I said, ‘You’re wrong, Justin.’ He said, ‘Nope, we have no trade deficit.’ I said, ‘Well, in that case, I feel differently,’ I said, ‘but I don’t believe it.’ I sent one of our guys out, his guy, my guy, they went out, I said, ‘Check, because I can’t believe it.’

‘Well, sir, you’re actually right. We have no deficit, but that doesn’t include energy and timber. … And when you do, we lose $17 billion a year.’ It’s incredible.”

The Office of the United States Trade Representative says the United States has a trade surplus with Canada. It reports that in 2016, the United States exported $12.5 billion more in goods and services than it imported from Canada, leading to a trade surplus, not a deficit.

This is the guy, the "best negotiator", who's going to have a one on one with Kim Jong Un, deciding the fate of the Korean Peninsula.

I'm not too sure what makes me more uncomfortable. When they were making stupid threats to each other or when they eventually get face to face!

KJU will walk all over him. Trump will come back saying "he's not a bad guy actually" "Only I can fix this problem"

Then KJU will bypass him and it will be SK and China that fix it, and leave the US out in the cold

And now back to The Wall

Donald Trump says Mexico border wall must be see-through to stop 'sacks of drugs' landing on people's heads
'They hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It's over.'

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/donald-trump-us-mexico-wall-see-through-sacks-of-drugs-landing-on-peoples-heads-a7842416.html

"One of the things with the wall is you need transparency. You have to be able to see through it," he said.
"So it could be a steel wall with openings, but you have to have openings because you have to see what's on the other side of the wall.
"As horrible as it sounds, when they throw the large sacks of drugs over, and if you have people on the other side of the wall, you don't see them. They hit you on the head with 60 pounds of stuff? It's over."

And a very humorous take on it from The Daily Show https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow/videos/10155586070091800/

NK 'summit'.

My guess? Trump's being sucked in here and is too stupid to see it.

I think the main purpose of the meeting is to discredit or humiliate Trump in some way (all Asians absolutely hate losing face), allowing NK, SK, and China to cosy-up and develop a club-like tripartite front against the US.

If Putin has any sense (what am I saying, lol?) he'll affiliate Russia with the club, or even join it.

On a brighter note, what would happen if Trump were to simply 'disappear' or suffer a mysterious death in NK?

Really: Who would have a problem with that?

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

That's a truly terrible thing for the huge trade deficit with Mexico.  It must be much much larger than the Mexicans are saying.

They're not meeting in NK, I believe they're looking for a neutral location - presumably one where most of the local population don't think the POTUS is an idiot.  The moon seems suitable.
