Rikkitic:

Usually when things like this start to dribble out, there is more to come. I think people were too quick to jump on her initially because of politics and I think she deserved the benefit of the doubt, but I am not inclined to defend her any longer. I do think she needs to step down. This is doing her party no good.

So does this means the Greens are now off your list too?

If Ms Turei does not resign before weeks end or the NZ Green Party does not part company with her then my ability to vote for them goes. I simply cannot vote NZ Green until this matter is sorted.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

This whole thing is making me so mad actually. I think I need to take a break and cool down for a while.

Pumpedd:

Clearly she is a very dishonest woman, and she still thinks she should be a member in our highest court???

I think her crimes are now a little old to be prosecuted over, but the speaker of the house surely has enough admissions now to throw her out of the House????

I am not sure if the Speaker of the House has that power unless she has lied to the House. With regards to MSD, they can act on the admission and they will assess any overpayments and seek to recover. As for prosecution it will depend on intent and if the Crown Solicitor believes there is a case. As for giving her address as the same as the father of her child that is a whole lot different and a whole lot harder. Trying to prove a relationship in the nature of a marriage inline with section 63(b) of the SSA is very very hard and this far out my experience is they will not try.

As for the electoral act stuff I have no idea, but I imagine the fines would not be huge if any were to be imposed.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

She has just announced she will not be resigning. That is a monumental mistake and it will cost the Green Party a lot and possibly the NZ Labour Party

The rest of the party needs to oust her if they want to retain any credibility. I'm sure how they go about that, but it needs to be done.

That's a very bad decision for her party. :(

As well as being a monumental mistake in terms of the immediate potential impact on Greens (and perhaps dragging Labour in to the mess), it weakens any possibility for the Greens to take "moral high ground" over any transgression made by MPs in other parties - and that will last long-term.

I don't like "whataboutism" in argument to excuse bad behaviour - but the Greens are neutering themselves long-term on moral arguments - as "whatabout Metiria" is going to be the inevitable response - and she won't be forgotten fast.

A spectacular fail of judgement.  As is the ridiculous suggestion she's made that she should stay in parliament and as the Green's co-leader - but not take a ministerial portfolio (if in coalition)

On one hand, I applaud her for not resigning, its doing more damage for the greens (and unfortunately for them by association) labour than any campaigning by National etc could ever do.

but, the arrogance of the woman, how conceited can you get?

48% of greens supporters still back her, not exactly a ringing endorsement. If 48% of the greens represents say 7.5% of the vote, that would indicate that the other 92.5% of the voting public don't support her actions. I would think that is the more attention would be paid by most political parties to the 92.5%, not the 7.5% of party faithful that they would get the support from anyway, but maybe thats just me.

Its possibly still far enough away from the elections for her resignation to gain back some support, but too much closer and it will be too little too late.

Her party simply isn't capable (or willing) to make the hard call and be pragmatic. Doesn't bode well for them when a serious issue arises should they ever make it to office, sometimes there is no right decision, just the least wrong one.....

Mud as they say sticks. The Green party are gonna find this out the hard way, either in the next week or three or by the time of the general election.

Totally stunned that she is still in the party. I agree with the comment that if she was part of National or Labour she would already be gone.

The simple fact that a vote for Labour is essentially a vote for the Greens should be enough for Labour to put insane amounts of pressure on her to resign. They will be losing votes themselves because of this.

I am all for giving someone a second chance. But a person who is going to be an MP should be held to a much higher standard.

She wants it all....she can smell victory but doesnt seem to understand that she is an admitted cheat. She has now admitted to falsifying multiple statutory declarations. No place for her in  parliament under ANY circumstances.

Labour has just said that it does not change their relationship with the Green Party, that too is a huge mistake. One person is probably seriously damaging the centre left vote. It truly baffles me.

Agreed. Labour should make a stand and say they will be unable to work with the Greens with Turei as co-leader. The Greens would drop her like a bad habit.

Forget the votes for a minute, what would it do to NZs international reputation to have an "elected official" openly admit to defrauding the Government and still remain as a member of parliament?
