I was watching Biden on Colbert last night. He is a terrible speaker. He fumbles and waffles all over the place, even in a friendly environment when what he is trying to say makes sense. I'm afraid Trump may eat him alive in the debates. Trump doesn't have to make sense or say things that aren't offensive. He is like a bulldozer and just ploughs on regardless. He did this to Hillary and he will do it to Joe Biden.

Biden is in the early stages of dementia.

More and more I am drawing to the conclusion that the Democrats, through sheer incoherent dithering incompetence, are giving the country away to the New Fascists. The only remaining tiny hope is that Biden picks a vice presidential candidate so scorching that she blows the forces of darkness clean out of the field and makes everyone forget completely about Biden. With the right VP, it won't matter that he is way over the average age of expiry for American white males. It won't matter that he can't complete a sentence without forgetting why he started it. All people need is the tiniest morsel of hope to build on. Unfortunately, the Democrats don't exactly have a stellar record in this regard. Steel yourselves for another thousand years of umbra.

I thought he was pretty good debating against Sarah Palin in 2008...but that was 12 years ago, and it looks like a lot has changed since then. Plus, she was (or came across as) quite uneducated. But this was in the pre-Trump era, too - although some commentators have said that McCain choosing her set the stage for a Trump presidency.

He also did really well 8 years ago when debating Paul Ryan. 4 years ago he new it was time to retire and step back from politics. He should have kept to that decision.

take this with a pince of salt, according to CNN (the most anti trump of the major US news networks from my personal experience and hence my opinion) -

CNN's news service is pretty good. Don't confuse the CNN news service with all the commentary and opinion shows on CNN. Even Fox has a pretty good core news service most of the time. Easy mistake to make for both channels. Wikipedia confirms similar numbers for Biden:

Problem is, I'm wary of the polls after 2016. Everyone predicted (and I was certainly hoping) that Hillary would win. She did win the popular vote - but not the Electoral College, which is where it all fell apart for her. I find fivethirtyeight.com to be interesting with his predictions, but I'm still wary of the polls.

Debates are almost meaningless in US politics. Hillary destroyed Trump in the debates & the people who disagree think Trump won because he "made the most noise". It was actually embarrassing for humanity to watch the argument go strait over Trump's head.

Bush V Gore same story, except that time Bush wasn't even making noise, just failing horribly to answer questions.

There were warning signs in many districts of battleground states that support for Hillary was slipping. Clearly they should have consolidated those districts better but no one thought Trump could win so I guess they got lazy. Support for Biden in these States is much better this time.

I think voters have had a taste of Trump and come to the realisation that he's not really as up to doing the job as he told them (sold them, maybe?) back in 2016. Hopefully this time experience trumps "something different", pun intended.

I wish they had chosen someone truly different, like Pete Buttigieg. Perhaps a step too far at the moment though.

If Biden’s performance online has been any indication, then he will get destroyed by any well prepared opponent. He may get the sympathy vote afterwards from those who consider it elder abuse.

Surely there’s got to be someone better than Trump or Biden out of a population of 300+ million?

Yes, I’m not meaning for VP. I’m talking about number 46.

Buttigieg aimed at the centre of the Democrats, and a little to the right. He had excellent support from silicon valley and Zuckerberg. In other words, pretty close to Clinton's old position without the baggage.

Obviously speaking to supporters on either side means absolutely nothing, so what has that got to do with anything? That's what pollsters are for who do it en masse. And Biden is crushing Hillary's numbers from 2016.
