People on the left are not the caricatures you make them out to be. Neither are people on the right. Most people are sincere in their beliefs, wherever they come from. Most people want what they perceive to be best for their community. It is a tragedy that more and more, like you, seem unable to communicate their differences in a reasoned and respectful fashion.

 

 

You're right and I was out of order. This Trump thread is not a great read after 3 glasses of red wine and nicotine patches. My apologies to all that I may have upset.

"At the Fox News Site, a Sudden Focus on Women as Sex Offenders"

"...Instances of female teachers sexually abusing male students are rare. But stories on the subject have lately taken up a lot of space at FoxNews.com.

Through the first half of 2017, the site posted fewer than 20 stories on women accused of sex offenses. The new focus started on June 30, when FoxNews.com published an article on 'the apparently increasing frequency of female teachers having sex with their young male students.' Over the next six months the site posted some 98 articles on instances of sexual abuse allegedly committed by women, most of them teachers.

Tales of the unusual suit the tabloid aesthetic of much of the site’s content. What was noteworthy was the spike in coverage of the subject, which began a few weeks after Noah Kotch, a former producer at NBC’s 'Today' show, became the site’s editor in chief. It also came in the aftermath of numerous sexual harassment scandals at Fox News.

Mr. Kotch, 43, said the articles were 'of extremely high interest to readers.'

Sex crimes committed by women make up a small share of sexual offenses in the United States, according to the available evidence. But FoxNews.com readers could have been excused for holding the impression that the nation was in the middle of an epidemic of female teachers sexually abusing male pupils.

Mr. Kotch, who is also a vice president of digital operations at Fox News, said the coverage was not meant to be proportionate to national crime statistics. "I don’t come into work every day saying it’s important that we place a focus on female sex crimes,” he said. “We don’t cover sex crimes like statisticians. We cover what’s interesting to the reader."

Nearly 30 percent of the articles posted under FoxNews.com’s "Sex Crimes" category between July and December were focused on female teachers, with many of them promoted near the top of the site’s home page.

Leilah Gilligan of the Center for Sex Offender Management — a project organized by the Department of Justice that was cited in FoxNews.com’s alarm-sounding article in June — said she was not aware of any data showing that the sexual abuse of male students by female teachers was on the rise.

Fewer than 9 percent of reported episodes of child sexual abuse are perpetrated by women, according to the Child Maltreatment Report, an annual survey of crimes against minors produced by the Department of Health and Human Services, when it last released such data in 2013. Franca Cortoni, a professor at the University of Montreal who researches female sexual offenders, said, "There is no evidence whatsoever that suddenly more women teachers are having sex with their male students."

Much of the FoxNews.com coverage coincided with the rise of the #MeToo movement, which prompted a wave of women to disclose past episodes of sexual harassment. Mr. Kotch said that the number of posts on the subject since his arrival was small compared with the volume of articles the site has published on sexual misbehavior by men, including the film mogul Harvey Weinstein.

'We aren’t shying away from focusing on sexual harassment in the workplace,' Mr. Kotch said.

FoxNews.com’s increased coverage of sex crimes allegedly committed by women began two months after the network ousted one of its prime-time anchors, Bill O’Reilly — a move made in the wake of a New York Times report that Mr. O’Reilly and the Fox News parent company, 21st Century Fox, had paid $13 million in confidential settlements to women who had complained about his behavior. (A subsequent Times investigation showed that the settlements involving Mr. O’Reilly totaled $45 million. Mr. O’Reilly has denied the allegations.)

Mr. Kotch said that the uptick in stories on the subject was not related to Fox News’s own sexual harassment issues, which burst into the open in 2016 with the forced departure of the Fox News chairman and chief executive Roger E. Ailes.

Mr. Ailes, who died in May, left the network he had helped create after Gretchen Carlson, a former Fox News anchor, sued him for sexual harassment. The anchor Megyn Kelly was another prominent Fox News figure to make an exit, when she went to NBC last year. In her memoir, “Settle for More,” Ms. Kelly accused Mr. Ailes of making “offers of professional advancement in exchange for sexual favors.”

Weeks after cutting ties with Mr. O’Reilly, the network said goodbye to its co-president, Bill Shine, who was accused of having dismissed complaints made by women about Mr. Ailes.

(Fox News has made structural changes in response to these incidents, such as hiring a new head of human resources and appointing new leaders for recruiting and diversity.)

Mr. Kotch, the website editor, was reportedly recruited personally by Rupert Murdoch, who has been the acting chief executive officer of Fox News since Mr. Ailes’s dismissal...."

Donald Trump Jr told the Senate Judiciary Committee he could not remember whether he had discussed the Russia investigation with his father, according to transcripts released of his interview with the panel.

 

The committee released more than 1,800 pages of transcripts of interviews last year with Mr Trump's son and others who met with a Russian attorney at Trump Tower ahead of the 2016 election, a meeting at which they expected to receive dirt about Mr Trump's opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton. ...

 

Mr Trump Jr deflected multiple questions during the interview saying "no, not that I recall" when asked if he discussed the Russia probe with his father.

I would like to say something about this thread. Most of it is made up of anti-Trump links and comments and some of it is clearly over the top so it would be easy to see it as simple Trump bashing. But I believe there is another important dimension to it that sometimes gets overlooked.

 

Donald Trump is not a nice person. He has a long, well-documented history of being not a nice person. He seems to have a genuinely nasty streak, as evidenced by his mockery of those he doesn’t like, including the family of a dead soldier and a journalist with a disability. He has a terrible attitude towards women, evidenced by his notorious pussy-grabbing comment. And now there is his comment about immigrants. These things and many, many others are not fake news. They are all well-documented. Trump is an unpleasant human being.

 

There are many unpleasant people in positions of power. That is unfortunate, but in itself not necessarily catastrophic. What makes it so much worse in Trump’s case is his apparent inability to grasp the consequences of his actions. He is a shallow, uncultured, unintelligent, ignorant, incompetent man with a narcissistic personality disorder and an obsessive dislike of his predecessor. He makes decisions impulsively, without thinking them through. He is a pathological liar. He tells lies about almost everything, then apparently believes them. These things are also well-documented. He doesn’t like to read and his comprehension is poor. He lets himself be led by what he sees on Fox News. He is easily flattered. He doesn’t understand even basic concepts. He takes pride in his ignorance.

 

As president of the USA, these qualities put him in a position to do enormous damage to his country and the world. He is a like a toddler with a loaded gun. He is far out of his league, hugely outclassed by those who want to manipulate him and take advantage of his limitations. He has become an embarrassment and an international laughing stock, undermining American prestige and the dignity of his office as he becomes easy fodder for late-night comedians.

 

He is also corrupt. Like Nixon, he surrounds himself with criminals. Money rules and those who dote on him are rewarded. He is drawn to fascist elements, who appeal to his simple-minded world view and in whom he sees kindred spirits. Some of his strongest critics worry that he and his cronies might actually subvert democracy in America and snuff it out altogether. Even if that does not happen, the damage that has already been done will likely take many decades to repair.

 

Trump enjoys an alarming level of popular support because he appeals to the worst instincts of his supporters. Some see him as a nascent Hitler but Mussolini might be a more relevant comparison.

 

Those of us who criticise and mock him here, do so not because we just don’t like his politics, but because we recognise the threat he represents. It is not about right or left. Donald Trump is not qualified by any measure to lead the United States of America or any other country. His election was a tragedy. The sooner that horrible mistake is corrected, the better. That, in my opinion, is what this thread is about.

Not quite what you're talking about, but he's already started steering discussions to things that may actually impact us more directly.

He's now blaming high pharmaceutical costs in the US on countries like New Zealand, who have systems in place to negotiate fairer prices for with the big drug companies. Once again, these allegations don't actually appear to be rooted in fact.

I watched the entire video (not the clickbait one linked) and to me it is clear he is talking about MS13 gang members not all immigrants. 

 

Not that im a fan of dehumanizing anyone but MS13 are fairly up there in terms of violence for world gangs.
