If he manages to get a war of any kind going, that will cement his re-election.

With who? Iran?

Doesn't matter. A war is a war. Everyone jumps on the patriotism bandwaggon.

A war with Iran sadly, will find little sympathy from the majority of Americans.

Even CNN's lead headline was Iran's Rouhani warns US that 'war with Iran is the mother of all wars', but what was actually said was ..... Americans "must understand that war with Iran is the mother of all wars and peace with Iran is the mother of all peace," Rouhani said while addressing diplomats Sunday in Tehran, according to Iran's state-run news agency IRNA.

Regardless, why would any country stand quietly by whilst being threatened on a regular ongoing basis?

I may not agree with Trump, but I think most of the ME would be happy to see the hardline Mullah regime replaced.

The Americans did that once already, which is how things got to where they are now. Iranians should be the ones to decide how they want to be ruled.

I agree. Just like an elected President of the USA. Or do different rules apply for the US outcome?

As far as I know, no-one here has questioned the legitimacy of Trump's presidency, or the fact that he genuinely won the election. The discussion is about his personal qualities, and those of his supporters. He is a liar, a cheat, a moral bankrupt, an undeserving and tragic accident of history, possibly a disaster for the world, but he was duly elected according to laws of the United States. No-one questions that and that is what makes it so terrible.

For almost every insane Trump rant, there's proof from Trump that Trump is certifiably insane.  About 60 million morons still support this idiot:

No - he didn't.

Then he will be gone. A wasted 4 years, but the next leader will quickly repair the damage, and restore relationships. That will start happening when the final vote comes in. probably before as in 2020 DEMs and GOP will be singing the same song, Restoration.

Except that the US can no longer be trusted to honour global treaties and agreements on trade, defense, the environment etc.  Trump didn't just happen - far right nationalism has been growing in the US for a decade - it's not going to fade away.

Precisely - Trump is not the disease, he is just a symptom of the disease (fascism).

The USA maybe needs to look again at The President's right to make Executive Orders.  When one man has the right to do so much without the checks and balances of government processes and procedures, it can't help but lead to situations like we see with Trump.  On the other hand, they say people get the government they deserve, and Trump was more or less elected.

Some expert opinion from an article in Business Insider

We elected someone who devalues and denigrates our core allies and partners. While other Republican elected officials – and some members of the administration – voice support for American allies and traditional American international values, they certainly aren’t checking Trump in the way that foreign allies and partners hoped.

It will be hard to reverse the gains of dictators and opportunists who take advantage of Trump policies to extend their influence,” Rothkopf said. “And it will take a long time for the world to trust US stability again … several election cycles for them to tell whether Trump was an aberration or just a symptom of a greater problem with America.

Trump does have the capacity to do “long-term damage to our alliances, our crucial international relationships and the international system that has been essential to our peace and stability since World War Two

Trump has done permanent damage to America’s global standing, but said that in electing him as president, the US essentially demonstrated it’s not capable of choosing “competent” leaders

Put simply, we will regress and spend lots of time trying to recover

Screw the right. Trump deserves to be hung upside down in the streets just like Mussolini. Followed by some nice shooting practice for all. Capatilism just benefits bastards like Trump who don't deserve the right to the air they breath, benefiting on the backs of everyone else.

The checks and balances don't matter: Congress could gut him now if they wanted to. But they don't. He is doing exactly what they want.

I think this is a step too far. Until there's evidence and a resulting conviction, the circumstances under which Mussolini was captured and executed are very different.
