I honestly don't know what to say at this time. In any case I think she should go and I am unlikely to vote for the Greens but I still want to see how this all pans out before passing any final judgments on them or Labour as a whole. This makes my question more pertinent than ever, though. Who should I vote for? Now I really don't know.

Is the genereal feeling that she really did lie about her place of residence in order to vote for her friend?  Or was she really living there and lying about that to WINZ because she would be ineligible to claim DPB while living with the child's father?

Whatever the details, she seems to have given two different addresses to two different govt depts, so we can add "stupid" to "dishonest"

If Jacinta has any sense she will attribute the MOU to Andrew and his then deputy and then publicly tear it up

I think the general feeling is that she was being deceptive at the time and has covered it up since. I don't like to pass judgment because no-one can really know. At the age she was then, young people often have a relaxed attitude about rules and regulations and what she did might not be regarded as a hanging offense, but bringing it up now for political purposes without correcting it first shows very bad judgement and maybe even a touch of arrogance, since even now she still doesn't seem to think she should resign, even though it is damaging her party.

A poll on NZ herald which as of writing this post has 15,000 votes has a result of 86% of voters say she should resign. Now these polls are nonscientific but they could be seen as indicative and 86% is pretty damming. NZ Green and Labour would be ill advised to ignore such a result.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Yes, that's how I'd read it.  Neither of the lies are exactly hanging offences, but standing up in a position of potential authority and basically saying it's alright to lie and cheat if you think the end justifies the means - not what is required of a minister.

As a right-leaning voter who'd love the left to crash and burn on Sep 23 I think she should stay as co-leader.

In any case it will be interesting to see how it turns out. This is not going to be a boring election.

Forget the votes for a minute, what would it do to NZs international reputation to have an "elected official" openly admit to defrauding the Government and still remain as a member of parliament?

We already do. Or did everyone forget about Bill English incorrectly claiming a housing allowance when he was Minister of Finance back in 08? Or is it ok because after it was discovered they retroactively changed the rules to allow it?

I suggest you go and do some more homework on that one. The house was in a family trust.

In Bill's case it wasn't illegal. Bill claimed the allowance on advice from Parliamentary Services, not because he was knowingly trying to rort the system. Did Bill also commit electoral fraud, and illegally register at a secondary address to vote for a mate?

We will never know. The dastardly plots thicken as the House of Cards grows higher...

Furthermore, the amount was repaid in full once English became aware that he had been relying on incorrect advice from Parliamentary Services.

But for me, the primary difference here is "intent".  Turei deliberately and persistently set out to falsify her position with the sole intent being to receive more taxpayer's funds than she was entitled to.  She sat on that deception for 20+ years and seemingly only took steps to make amends when she felt that she could extract political capital from the admission.

That, and that fact that she still refuses to apologise for her admitted wrongdoings.

Two Green MPs quit after co-leader Metiria Turei refused to resign after she admitted lying to obtain a benefit.

Kennedy Graham and David Clendon made the threat to quit in protest on Monday afternoon. It is understood their resignations were accepted.

The pair are two of the longest serving members of the Green Party.

Quite satisfying as it is the same view as mine. Good to see some MP's are honorable although I am not sure what their resignations will achieve.

Good on them. It's nice to see MPs with such integrity. Just a pity they won't be around to continue to lead by example. There are some in other parties who could also use a little moral guidance.
