To be frank, I'm surprised at the defense for Simon Bridges. I work at an essential services organisation where our current network is stretched with being over capacity because of the number of staff now having to work at home and I certainly am not heading into our office 10km away just for better internet let alone 1000km!

Just for reference, based on Google my long weekend trip to Taupo in 2019 was around 560km return and we made sure there were back up drivers just in case because you never know if someone was fatigued or could get ill on longer trips. He's taking risks that could impact essential workers and health/medical staff unnecessarily when he could just as well use internet from a local site like the previous post mentioned.

And just FYI I believe it's good there were repercussions for David Clark. And I suspect he will officially "resign" after covid 19. We don't need recruitment as a distraction right now which is fair enough. I believe there should be repercussions for everyone breaking lock down rules regardless of party.

There's one person in this thread who's really biased and whose contribution amount to little but negative ravings. I think everyone bar you knows who that is.

You really have no moral standing whatsoever to be complaining about others being biased.

And one final point for Simon Bridges, he already has UFB at both his residential address and local Electorate office in Tauranga.

You can easily find his home address via the Companies register in case someone is thinking I am posting private information.

But there is zero excuse in my view for his unnecessary travel to Wellington, and this is not to reduce how much of an idiot David Clark is as I think he is equally culpable.

Bridges keeps digging a hole for himself

Still not man enough to admit that driving 1000kms is wrong. What a muppet.

He said the "resources and focus" that came from him being actually in Wellington were of use - as was the opportunity to talk to the parliamentary press gallery.

You few minutes of "fame" isn't worth other people's health, you selfish ****.

On Monday evening Bridges told Newstalk ZB that "about 50 per cent of the time my internet doesn't work" - but he said on Tuesday that this wasn't the main reason he was commuting.

If you can't make your internet work reliably when you have access to his level of income and UFB, when you supposedly take his job as seriously as he claims to, then you're simply an idiot. We don't need idiots trying to hold a government to account. I've only ever vote for National or have (mainly) chosen to conscientiously abstain but I'd rather vote for a piece of amoeba than any government led by this guy. You can just about guarantee that he wasn't taking any potshos about the Clark issue (using his typically whiney voice and tone at that) solely because he knew his own conduct will be referenced.

What a disgrace.

The bad internet was the first excuse. He has fibre. 50% of the time his internet doesn't work. Wow, ok. Now the bad internet, the fibre that fails half the time isn't the excuse, its not even a part of it. he has to got to Welly as the Opposition leader, video isnt good enough. Ive been impressed with him over a few points lately, but why not just say all this first, instead of saying my internet is bad? Do we own up, tell the truth, or depends if we get nabbed on it? Disappointing.

How dare you expect our Simon to (1) make a sacrifice or (2) think ahead or (3) just forego his moments of fame. All hail Simon!

I do have to thank him for making my task in the coming elections very easy. I'll just vote Labour/Green - who gets the electorate and party vote shall be determined later. One less thing to think about during these complicated times.

David Clark making the same mistake twice is just dumb, but at least he’s owned up to it and admitted he was wrong. Simon Bridges is doubling down on his mistake and claiming it’s ok. Not to mention the other National MPs who have done the same in the last week or two - all while everyone else attends via Zoom.

How many bubbles is that which have burst? All the MPs, their families, staff at Parliament.... the whole point of lockdown is restricting travel.

These guys are leaders of our country and we should expect better from both. I’m quite disappointed Bridges’ poor choices aren’t having the same level of scrutiny as Clark’s to be honest.

Im ok with a poor choice, Im not ok with lies. Bad internet was the reason, then its not even that he said, roll off a new reason. Everyone makes mistakes, but to lie is not on.
