Well, the situation continues to deteriorate. I feel now is the time for Coster to stand up and say they were prepared to make some allowances considering blah blah and public safety, but they feel now the situation will continue to escalate from the protesters side and they are disbanding the protest by force, if the protesters will not leave by their own accord. I am unsure if he gives them a deadline to disband and says to the others that anyone left on the grounds after 4pm today will be removed by force and arrested etc, or that risks the protesters fortifying, and just head on in.

Both have risks and benefits. Glad I am not making the choice and I hope they can resolve this without anyone getting seriously hurt.

If they do it now, they can head the Tamaki's convoy off at the pass perhaps.

It’s a case of damned if they do and damned if they don’t for the Police. There will be the quiet protesters that won’t make trouble if they go n and the rabble rousers who would pick a fight and get violent no matter what.

My question would be are any of the more hostile armed in any way. Is there a faction there that consider themselves paramilitary. I’m sure no one checked for weapons when the protests started. It’s a situation that could turn dangerous very fast.

Agreed. There is no winning here.

People should not have been speculating. It's an unknown substance. That is all that should have been said in the press. Guessing it's acid inflames the situation and serves no positive purpose.

NZHerald should be censured for it's stupidity in reporting it on the front page as part of the main headline.

Suppose media have reduced options when Police are not 'directly' supplying information.
Any easily available strong irritant will either be strongly basic or strongly acidic.

Given the protesters would consider Bleach a valuable natural cure, Acid being readily available may be likely option ?
I need it for my camper battery ? One would have hoped sealed batteries would have reduced availability.

Strange how 'all the best people' rather than separating themselves from the disgusting behavior,
went to the press area to demand they be executed for showing what they were doing ?

Spokespeople see nothing going on ?  We are expected to negotiate with these un-negotiables.
There have been plenty of protests that have not got what they wanted. Probably most by a long way.

Brian Tamaki may not be used to this, he asks and the stage is covered in money being his usual experience.

Stop guessing. It's irresponsible and potentially dangerous. Wait till we know.

Protestors divided? I didn't think all of them were united in the first place!

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/health/coronavirus/300523186/live-protesters-divided-at-the-parliament-occupation-with-some-calling-for-peaceful-action-in-the-wake-of-morning-arrests-by-police

Also former PM Jim Bolger tells politicians to "get off their high horses" and go and talk to the protestors, which (from memory) he did at Motua Gardens:

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/politics/2022/02/former-nz-prime-minister-jim-bolger-urges-mps-to-get-off-their-high-horses-and-meet-anti-mandate-protesters.html

^ that was something totally different and not comparable IMO. Plus he also wasn't dealing with people who had been lead astray due to copious amounts of misinformation on social media, back in 1995. Maybe he should go and talk to them if he feels their cause is worth listening to? Of course, he probably won't.

Now some of them are saying the ones causing the trouble are plants from the government who are doing it to discredit them.

What a bunch of muppets.

Yeah, just like the protesters in Canberra blaming their sunburn on some secret weapon the government used against them.

Imo not necessary or desirable. Vehicles are slowly being cleared and the numbers are reducing voluntarily.

There's a Destiny convoy coming?

A builder on a site i was at last week made the pilgrimage down and is a complete conspirinutbar.

According to him more then 60% of the country support the protest, but further they had already had a whip around to get $40000 for remediating the parliament lawns and reseeding them etc.

Whats the bet this $40000 disappears into someones pocket and the mess does not get cleaned up.

Normally the trend is you don’t negotiate with pirates or kidnappers however these protesters are neither and many are citizens who probably voted in and supported the government...but the horse has now well and truly bolted away from the original mandate protest. Big mistake not engaging a few days into the protest instead of taking the lofty approach.

When you get the owner of The Backbencher and the Mayor of Wellington having a meeting with a few out the back of the pub to help resolve the problem, and then Winston Peters who was the reason this government got into power, coming down from Auckland to meet the protestors...it’s staring to look like a bit of a comedy.

I really think it’s time our leader climbs down and attempts to take back the reins before further alternative factions join in. It's good to remember that the protestors know there's safety in numbers, and those numbers can grow very quickly.
