Kookoo:

It must be a gesture that a character in Path of Exile 2 does. Musk has been playing the game pretty much 24/7 for the last few weeks to earn the top character there, so he probably associates himself with a character there. Surely.

Elon Musk Finally Admits To ‘Path Of Exile 2’ Account Boosting In DMs

It's genuinely impressive how much of a dweeb he is.

The US elected a fascist government that openly campaigned as a fascist government in waiting. What surprises me is that people (and media) pretend this not to be the case. Elon's salute today was entirely consistent with the advertising, no surprises here.

America has got what they voted for, I have no empathy for them. And they are welcome to Elon.

Not fussed or obsessed on the man at all, nor am I anti either, but, if it were a "my heart goes out" gesture, wouldn't his hand be palm up or at least at an upward angle. I doubt there is much he does that is random or by accident, I'd be erring on the side of a deliberate nod to the rise and reign of trump being somewhat similar (at least in terms of popularity and obsessiveness of his followers) as Hitler (note, not Hitlers politics / or policies, just the ability to captivate the crowd and elevate his own perceived importance).

Out of honest interest, when people are calling him a nazi, what part of his ideology or actions are you referring to? Anti-semitism? Affinity for socialism? Racism?

Surely not just the hand gesture (from a guy who is known for making exuberant gestures)?

@CrazyM:

Please provide video evidence.

For example, for Kamala's hand the comment I read is that it was a wave. That's a single frame capture to fit the alt-right story.

So if you are going to comment, please post videos, not single frames.

If not, I will start seeing this as disinformation and start banning people.

See, this is the kind of post that I consider really offensive. Because by posting it you seem to assume we're all morons who're unable to distinguish between someone captured with a raised hand, and someone who performs a Nazi salute. Performs, meaning a gesture, meaning a motion, meaning a video. This isn't 8chan, fb, twitter or reddit. Don't insult the intelligence of geekzone members.

  1. Look to a strong man over democratic processes. Trump: "I alone can fix this"
  2. Target a common enemy. Trump's persistent attacks on immigrants as "vermin", "rapists"
  3. Promote extreme nationalism. Trump appeal to his white fundamentalist base "They’re poisoning the blood of our country"

Pretty much Hitler's politics.

"Giving his heart" has to be the most hilarious take on a nazi salute I've seen

He also could have just waved or given a thumb's up like the orange buffoon as well. But oh no, he has to do his veiled Nazi bs thing and then say "oh it was my hand on my heart, haha, the media is lying to you, watch this video provided to explain myself, not their unedited one" 🙄

Unrelated, but I've never heard him speak before today. I was expecting a full-on South African accent (I work with a few people from ZA and know what it sounds like) but to my surprise he has an American-sounding accent.

This gotcha is so stupid and vapid. It might work for the right crowd but we all know these are not equivalent. Quit this crap, it's disingenuous and you know it.

SumnerBoy:

I realise one clip shows the gesture to the crowd, and the other doesn't. But I am surprised that the timing of the comment "my heart goes out to you" dictates whether it was a Nazi salute or not.

In my mind this is a pretty clear indication of his intention, whether before or after the gesture.

But as already mentioned, happy to agree to disagree.

I think a healthy debate about these sorts of things is beneficial to all parties. It forces us all to properly research and formalise our arguments, and if after that we both disagree then all good!

There's no such thing as a healthy debate about the right of differently coloured, differently oriented or differently abled people to exist. We all know how that previously worked out...

Why does him doing a nazi salute need to be a debate? I don't care if you disagree with me, it's clear what his intent was lol. I've never seen 'give my heart' platitudes do that motion.

Your defense is the defense that all his fans are using and it's ridiculous. He literally supports the AFD and wants to 'liberate Europe'. If it walks like a damn duck then it's a duck.

And no I will not debate this, sorry to say. This isn't a debate, not everything needs to be a debate so you can defend your favourite billionaire. Everyone is visually reacting to what he's doing.

If it's anything to go by, the Brothers of Italy (led by PM Giorgia Meloni) & Marine Le Pen of the French National Rally have refused to deal with the AfD, on the grounds that the AfD is too close to the Kremlin, among other fringe lunacies.

I couldn't agree more. But the debate I was referring to was not about the holocaust, but whether Musk's gesture was a Nazi salute or not.

The "but it was a little bit different" argument fails to hold water when it's still a dog whistle and boost to the nazi and white nationalist factions growing in power through the world and USA in particular.

You don't need a pointy white hat to be racist, it just helps everyone know you're in the club.
