I eas going to mention Beto, but he lost, so isn't eligible?

Why does that rule him out as a presidential candidate? Not being previously elected didn't stop Trump with the Republicans.

Yes, true. When I read about Beto elsewhere, it read as though he lost that, but yes, must have read that wrong

He looks the deal to me

Rikkitic: I believe in democracy. This is the democratic verdict and I believe it must be respected. But I find it profoundly depressing. I find it depressing because many of the elections could have easily gone the other way, and if they had, half of the country would still feel the way I do.

Massive restoration of democracy in Florida. Voters approved a referendum measure restoring the vote to persons previously convicted who have served their time:

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/11/6/18052374/florida-amendment-4-felon-voting-rights-results

This is expected to resotre the franchise for over one million people. You can go to bed happy about that one. Bipartisan support for that as well.

The New York Times - Trump Strikes at Justice

In forcing out Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the president seems to want a lawman he can control.

[Sessions’s chief of staff, Matthew Whitaker, became acting attorney general on Wednesday, and is the man that Mueller now reports to.]

[Whitaker] has expressed a Trumpian degree of hostility to the [Mueller] investigation he is now charged with overseeing.

He has called it a “witch hunt” and, in its earliest months, wrote an opinion piece arguing that Mr. Mueller was coming “dangerously close” to crossing a “red line” by investigating the president’s finances.

He has suggested there was nothing wrong in Mr. Trump’s 2017 firing of James Comey, the F.B.I. director, and he has supported the prosecution of Hillary Clinton.

In an interview last year he described “a scenario where Jeff Sessions is replaced with a recess appointment, and that attorney general doesn’t fire Bob Mueller, but he just reduces his budget to so low that his investigation grinds to almost a halt.” ...

We live in Interesting Times.  undecided

Yes, running the country will be a part time news event, the sideshow of last nights results will be the main news feed for a long while.

The checks and balances of the House is really annoying, but we were ok with it when we had the House and Senate when Obama was in

An AG that follows judicial process for his much loved country is also really annoying.

As are journalists that ask me questions.

Its almost like I am in public office, but this is my show, I'm still firing them

Acosta has had his press pass suspended.

Acosta had his mike taken away by the young woman, but its made out to be inappopriate behaviour, when its just Jeff Sessions 2.0

"White House press secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement accusing Acosta of "placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern," calling it "absolutely unacceptable."

The interaction between Acosta and the intern was brief, and Acosta appeared to brush her arm as she reached for the microphone and he tried to hold onto it. "Pardon me, ma'am," he told her.

Folks, don't get too depressed about the recent events in the US. Instead, focus on the big picture.

The primary effect of the mid-terms has been to limit the powers of the most dangerous individual in recent history.

Perhaps, in terms of the potential powers wielded by this person, the most dangerous person ever.

Instead, rejoice.

Band-Aids don't work overnight, but they do work.

Millions of Americans have learnt that their vote counts, and that's really important.

There WILL be an end to the nightmare.

Trump does not give a toss about the fine folks of the United States. His only interest is that he is President, the outcome of the election means nothing to him except in his mind it was a victory for Donald Trump.

geekIT:

There WILL be an end to the nightmare.

I can't see it in the short term.  Trump is emboldened - on an all out mission to defy all checks and balances and with everything at stake if he can't.  He's got 40% of the public behind him - even if many of them realise he's a madman and a liar.  Sessions' firing (err "resignation") was planned long ago, as well as plans for what to do to defy checks and balances with a Democrat majority in the house.

I think it's going to get very ugly.

Beg to differ.

Trump is an extremely dangerous and unpredictable idiot / egomaniac / narcissist / fascist / sociopath / bully.

He has been fatally flawed since birth.

Ditto.

The real danger posed by Trump is his ability to engage others in his madness.
