Geektastic:
No doubt. The liberal press really do have their panties in a wad (to use an Americanism) over the prospect of a POTUS from outside the Establishment, that is for sure. They make out he is in fact Damien from the Omen!
If the cap fits...

Well, yeah... the liberal message is "Why would you want to elect a lying cheating scoundrel from outside of the Establishment?". And, being good marketeers, they're emphasizing the only point of difference.
Given that conservatives are against change, it makes it difficult for the conservative press that the only point of difference is that the conservative candidate will be a change.
At least Hillary didn't collapse with from the heat like she did the other week at the 911 memorial event.
Unfortunately the debate(s) are very well structured and sterile with no audience/voter participation. I much more enjoyed the Brexit debates as it pitched those pushing their cause against Joe public.
No clear winner from this debate though, this was just a warm up I guess.
I thought that was better than I was expecting. I would give it to Hillary, but Trump wasn't entirely disgraceful either.
The biggest problem for me is the lack of specifics for Trump. He says he has a plan, but never gives any indication of the plan.
It's a shame that it aired during Monday Night Football, great game going on at the moment. 77 pointer so far with 10 minutes left.
Hillary won the debate by a country mile.
Trump is a good campaigner and a bad debater.

Can't believe some people think it was close. He was all over the show, barely answered a question he was asked directly and continuously interrupted Clinton. On the other hand she was calm, measured and to-the-point. She got a bit personal a few times which was probably a little unnecessary but all-in-all it was a landslide from where I was sitting.
Just got to hope like hell the US voters agree!
I give it to Hillary, not that it makes any difference. Trump started strong, but then fell apart. But he didn't drop his pants and take a dump on stage, so those who already support him won't have seen anything to make them change their minds. Clinton did okay and actually said things that make sense while Trump was waffeling and wandering all over the place. Moderates would have found her performance acceptable and maybe she will swing some votes or at least stop Trump's momentum.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos

I guess we can all be grateful for this. I assume Hillary was wearing her diaper.

You only think it wasn't close because you don't understand how Americans think, and or vote. That isn't being disrepectful to them or to you, but it's entirely different. You can't apply Kiwi logic to matters.
Not sure I want to understand them if they think he is the answer to their problems ;).
Frump came over as a complete moron.
Would be great if he could complete one sentence without jumping to a new idea!

I tried to listen to what he was saying and a lot of the time it was garbage coming out...
I switched off after about 30 mins, lots of puff and wind coming from both parties, neither of which had any real substance to it (from what I saw). I would say both lost this one, although Hillary lost by less than Trump (his smugness about using the law of the land to go into chapter 11 4 times to build his own nest egg wouldn't have done him any favours).
A warm up for sure, rounds 1 - 2 of a boxing match, just feeling each other out without wanting to deliver anything of real substance until it was far enough along not to be able to recover from.

That is pretty much all these types of 'debates' are, and that is using the term kindly. They are made for tv events without substance. NZs ones are often worse. I can see Trump winning the whole thing because people are sick of the current direction of open trade etc. He is also more relatable, and very well known being on TV. You also only need to look at Brexit. So it looks like the end of the TPPA under both options, and possibly tarrifs coming back in as countries protect their own economies, as it looks like Trump wants to tax US companies who have moved overseas, who want to bring their goods back into the US to sell.
Trump is also probably more well known than Clinton, and the US have a history of voting for TV and movie stars. Eg Arnie and Reagan. Clinton just comes across as snooty to me, and is not really relatable. She is almost too stage managed and rehearsed. If it was between Obama and Trump, then Trump probably wouldn't have a chance.
