sir1963:

Problem is, National are just as incompetent, they may attack Labours weak points, but they are not offering any solutions.

At this stage National are just doing the Miss World "World peace" BS.

All good though if you're rich; tax cuts!

I don't want a tax cut, I want a well educated, healthy workforce to allow me to get my pension.

So apart from the obvious PR photos of the PM among penguins, why is she going there and why is she taking her husband.

He's not her husband, not yet anyway. The wedding got cancelled/postponed not sure which. At the time they said cancelled but I actually though they meant postponed but perhaps it has been cancelled.

Otherwise seems to me to be just a jolly, much like those friends of Winston's had.

Great. My family could probably do with some of the decade or so of inflationary-driven earning changes that successive has clipped the ticket on tax revenue to make themselves look good.

Basic tax administration like indexing for inflation isn't some wild political dichotomy between the collapse of the state or everything being adequately funded and pretending it is is exactly why it should be taken out of the hands of politically driven individuals and be an automatic thing.

Mallard's mistake with the protestors was that he should have cleared them off as soon as they started being a nuisance to others trying to go about their business.

I have no problem with them protesting, but do it somewhere that you don't bother others.

It wasn't Mallards action to take. He had to inject himself into the situation directly so he could get some attention.

Potests aren't really protests if people don't take note. Hiding protesters where they won't inconvenience people isn't really the point.

First offer from the ministry of education to teachers is out, About 4.4% at the Bottom, and 2.2% at the top of the scale. Basically a massive pay cut in real terms due to inflation. Parents prepare for Teachers Strikes in 2023, election year for sure.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Robertson ruling out a haitus on student loan repayments. This is interesting because:

1) Like our income tax rates, this has been left as-is for far too long, and our scheme is rubbish compared to Australia. I've posted about this many times.

2) Trump suspended student loan repayments in the States when the pandemic hit. Quite something to think that Robertson is more austere than Trump when it comes to student debt. I note no local media dare make this observation.

I mean you don't have to dig too deep:

Australia: Updates repayment rates and thresholds all the time.

US: Biden wrote some debt off, Trump suspended federal loan payments.

NZ: The same rates for years at a time, no relief, none whatsoever, pandemic redundancy, lockdown, ordinary administrative adjustment etc 'because it costs too much'.

BOTH countries also have much greater earnings per capita than NZ.

Its an Apples and oranges comparison .

Well then taxes will need to go up, that debt has to be paid by someone. Either that or you shut down more tertiary education and limit numbers who can attend.

...except in a global war for talent, if all you have to offer is expensive housing, expensive food and punitive student loan repayment demands, then you're just making a solid case for people to not even bother getting a foothold here.
