He has to be treated humanely. Otherwise we just lower ourselves. But he is entitled to zero sympathy. I can think of no good reason to allow him the company of others - any others. There is also the risk that he could radicalise others and I would hate to give him that option. If he is stuck with his own twisted company for the rest of his life, which I hope with all my heart and soul will by long and empty, then so be it. Give him the Qur'an for company.

I think that's the issue. That it's inhumane to completely isolate someone indefinitely. I really don't know the solution.

I am pretty sure by law there will be a standard that must be met, we should meet this so as to not give this miserable excuse for a human being ammunition to use valueable court resources and attention disputing his treatment.

Nothing more and nothing less than the minimum requirements.

Isn't that the point of the action? He is asking for a judicial review to check if the conditions he is being held in are up to the standard prescribed under law.

He is using whatever is available to add novelty to his dreary existence. Court hearings, even by video link, are a break in an otherwise monotonous routine. After two years, he is starting to get bored. I hope he sees the future stretching out and it scares him.

He should not be allowed any company, but if that cannot be avoided, at least make sure it is not the same company so he cannot poison others. Ideally, have a different suitably qualified guard sit with him for a couple hours.

Presumably the conditions aren't like what we generally think of as solitary confinement, e.g. "The Hole" or SHU?
Does he get supervised outdoor time and exercise?
TV and /or other entertainment?

The Guardian reports that Corrections have stated he has TV, but only one channel - Home and Garden.

The hole is a tv thing. You can't lock someone in a no windows 2x2m room. Not sure if you have seen police 10-7. But even the holding cells at stations are larger than that.

Limited TV. No News, Limited snail mail (which is what his complaint now revolves around, So basically limited outside contact or ability to see himself in lights)

Yes there is a 20m2 (I think it was reported as) grassed mound area inside the complex where he can get out and share the unfortunate same light of day as us.

Don't forget this is take 2. He had a go in Oct by trying to starve himself and got in the papers. 6 months on.. it's time to re-spark.

The courts will sort it out. There wont be much to it. Based on the interval maybe something or other will be raised every six months for a while by this individual. Personally I would not bother to bump the topic for whatever it is.

He's withdrawn the challenge.

Shadia Amin, whose husband Ahmed Abdel-Ghany died in the shootings, said she believed the terrorist was playing mind-games with the victims and their families, and purposefully trying to cause them anxiety.

She believed that is why he chose the start of Ramadan to ask the court to review his prison conditions and terrorist entity designation.

“It is not the first time he did this, and he will try something again later on,” she said.

I agree.
I even wonder if perhaps this thread may best be locked or deleted. There's nothing to be gained by talking about this piece of detritus, it just draws attention, if anybody wants to find out the facts, it's well documented elsewhere, wiki etc.

This evil person's only purpose for the rest of his miserable life will be to repeatedly re-traumatise his surviving victims and try to keep himself "relevant" and in the news.

Note this shooter's manifesto was banned in New Zealand.

A white gunman motivated by hate and dressed in tactical gear killed 10 people and wounded three others Saturday afternoon at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket, officials said.

The suspect, an 18-year-old man, shot 13 people — 11 of whom are Black and two who are white — at the Tops Friendly Market, Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia said.

Officials said he streamed the attack on a social media platform.

A Twitch spokesperson said the platform has investigated and confirmed that the stream was removed “less than two minutes after the violence started.”

An apparent manifesto with the suspect's name, a shared birthdate, and biographical details in common with the suspect, was posted to Google Docs on Thursday night.

In it, the author claimed to have been radicalized online and appeared to adhere to the false replacement theory, which has been used by white killers to justify violence against Muslims, Latinos, and Jewish people around the world.

Replacement theory, the conspiracy cited in Gendron's apparent manifesto, has roots that date back to the early 20th century, but today people are more likely to know it from French writer Renaud Camus’s 2011 essay, the title of which translates to “the great replacement," according to the anti-hate group ADL.

In it, Camus argues that immigrants from the Middle East and Africa are replacing native white Europeans, which, he says, will lead to the extinction of the white race, the ADL said.

White supremacists have adopted and promoted the “great replacement” theory, according to the ADL, which said in a statement Saturday that the document's language “closely echoes the themes of previous rants posted by white supremacist shooters, and refers repeatedly to the virulently racist and antisemitic Great Replacement conspiracy theory.”

In the document, the writer claims he was radicalized on an extremist 4chan forum while he was “bored” at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020.

The document also says Buffalo was targeted because it’s the city with the most Black residents that’s nearest to the author’s residence, and repeatedly references the gunman who killed 51 people and injured dozens of others in the 2019 shooting at a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The ADL said the apparent manifesto closely parallels the language in the document written by the Christchurch shooter.

I used to be opposed to censorship but Christchurch changed that for me. I have always believed in self-censorship. I had no desire whatsoever to view beheading videos at the time and I have no desire to witness these horrible acts. I think the chief censor said (can't find it now) that censorship does not exist to protect normal people from dangerous content, but those who would be influenced by it. I reluctantly have to agree.

Newshub: Plunket launched an alternative online media channel and last week during a rant about the Christchurch Call, he raised questions about whether the Christchurch terrorist had really committed a terrorist attack. "This supposedly will stop a repeat of the act of terror that [nameless] supposedly perpetrated," Plunket said. "[nameless] was not convicted of terrorism. He was convicted of mass murder."

Wrong. The conviction was for a terrorist offence. Plunket later followed up with a tweet suggesting people read the screed. The screed is a banned publication for goodness sake. After these comments I'd be very surprised if any member of parliament appears on this show ever again.
