More strikes coming! Yay.
Wouldn't be happening if National had done a better job.
Wow, that's some "interpretation".
I thought you would enjoy it.

So this type of comment is ok, but "I believe the coalition will fail to deliver on all it's flagship policies" isn't ok? How is this "moving the discussion forward" exactly?
I note no rebuke for *your* comment either.
It's all very selective isn't it?

My comment was a light-hearted response to your comment celebrating the next wave of strikes. Oh wait, you were being sarcastic. Well that's okay so was I.

I am unsure what folks want here. Do folks want the government to give the teachers all they are asking for thus avoiding and more industrial action and increasing taxation to fund it? Do folk want to government to hold fast and thus more industrial action? Do folks want the government to ban the teachers from industrial action?
What exactly do folks believe the government should do?
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
Are the teachers' demands unreasonable? If not, they should be met. Good teachers are important. They are the future.
Are the demands reasonable, but there just isn't enough money? Then there has to be negotiation. Same for all other disputes. Fairness is my yardstick.

I believe the government will be dammed if they do, dammed if they don't no matter which way the go with any solution and probably by the same people.

Further to what you've written above:
Will increased resources, as that which has been specifically requested by teachers, result in better educational outcomes for students?
Will removing national standards, as requested, improve educational outcomes?
There are lots of statements being made, but little empirical data being presented to justify NZEI claims.

I gave up on the politics discussions. As the arguments are based on pre determined bias and not a general debate of the pros and cons. My particular belief is that the teachers probably do have valid concerns. Im not aware that teachers issues were good as gold until the last election, at which point they are suddenly understaffed, under resourced and underpaid. If I mentioned "underfunding" that will get shot down as not relevant. So why bother debating???
I'm waiting to see what Greater Auckland has to say once they've had the chance to dig into Twyford's comments about the North West.
Teachers have been offered a massive increase at a extra cost of very approx $800M. They are being greedy!
The pot of gold isnt bottomless when we are still waiting on so many promises to be met eg health.
The teacher unions have always been some of the most militant and obnoxious in this country. They are way over-playing their hand when the ERA mediator has described the offer from the government as being extremely generous in the current fiscal environment.
