Completely irrelevant. The statement I made relates to people trying to claim 3Waters needs to go ahead due to people dying. On a $$ per death basis it's clear the roads and mental health are where the money should be spent first (if deaths is the claim being made to justify the spend).

I agree in part. Having said that, it's exceptionally likely without serious action, water could become a *much* bigger problem in the not-too-distant future and heading that off at the pass is going to be less disruptive and less expensive overall. The reality is, we have 10 critical issues in NZ and fixing them all at once, would likely push us into bankruptcy. We have neither the financial resources, qualified leadership, nor people to do the work, and so we need a better plan around timing and priorities.

Hey so here's me saying something positive.

The Govt has decided that BNPL schemes are to be regulated under the CCCFA.

This is excellent news.

I do sometimes wonder if NZ just doesn't have enough people to support proper infrastructure for a country of our size. But then if we encourage rampant immigration we have to have the infrastructure in place first. If we want the trains, light rail, decent roading network, properly funded Pharmac and the Health system etc we simply need more taxpayers to pay for it all.

This would hold some water if we didn't add hundreds of thousands of people without that stuff (especially transport) in the first place. We're already a long way behind what we should have, particularly in Auckland.

...and therein lies the dilemma. You need to immigrants to help pay for the infrastructure, but you need the infrastructure in place before they get here to avoid what happened in Auckland.

We already got the migration though. That doesn't change a fundamental inability to actually build the infrastructure to support it.

There's zero reason to think or believe that this might or will change in the future, and I think the people of Auckland probably want to see the rapid transit and all the other things they were promised they'd have already before they agree to do the heavy lifting for population growth for the rest of the country.

Yes and that's where the election comes into it, Labour have shown they can't really build anything. On the other hand I'm not sure National are that keen on light rail either.

Exactly. More taxpayers in a more congested environment is efficient. OR, we can be small, remote, enjoy the lifestyle benefits of good land size, everything is handy, we aren't on a nuke spreadsheet (or any spreadsheet). Ive travelled a lot as have many here, its ok in GodZone. But, you will never have a budget that keeps everyone happy. I'm happy with my own budget, the Government budget, is what it is (and I really hate that saying)
