Interesting graph... not what I expected. What does it relate to? UK? US? World?
Median household income in the USA peaked in 1999.
It almost certainly relates to the US. That is the only country I know of that normally gives demographic breakdowns according to whites, blacks and Hispanics.
Plesse igmore amd axxept applogies in adbance fir anu typos
I think the number of Hispanics in the UK would be fairly small and it isn't a common term there, so I would say US.

All this talk about peasants and class reminds me of how much capitalists despise the concept of wealth redistribution.
Could someone remind how wealth distribution would look in a feudalistic society.
With a bit of luck, there wouldn't be any!
There are winners and losers. And there are always those that will bet both ways!
What a difference in two weeks! Project Fear mastermind Osborne now says City will THRIVE following Brexit and remain the world's dominant financial centre

What a difference in two weeks! Project Fear mastermind Osborne now says City will THRIVE following Brexit and remain the world's dominant financial centre
- Investment banks join Osborne to pledge UK remains finance hub post-EU
- Signatories include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan
- Stated their commitment despite Brexit's 'clear economic challenges'
- London has established itself as a centre for Islamic and green finance
I'm sure similar things were said when parliament banned slavery (although they did pay a lot of compensation to plantation owners to smooth the way!), when the Empire was disbanded, when they left the Gold Standard, when they decimalised the currency and so on.
Curiously nothing permanently bad ever occurred.

Well, if you watch the poorest group (left-most bar) the animation shows that they really seem to do quite well over time - almost doubling their income between 1971 and 2015. But I bet they're still not happy.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Actually - the left-most bar shows the % of people earning less than US$5k, they're not doubling income but doubling in numbers (% of population).
Income and income distribution bands isn't really what should be looked at - if as I suggested could be possible - we're moving from a more egalitarian / meritocratic society back to feudalistic models. Losing social mobility to nobility. Wealth distribution shows a much more distorted bell-curve. To be calling the shots and a maker and shaker, you want to be wealthy - not merely high income. Of course with Brexit, poms are involved, so as well as wealth there's that bizarre (or at least it used to be thought bizarre in NZ) concept of " social class" - much stronger still in the UK than here.
I guess that in a democracy, then there'd be a backlash. I suspect there is - but instead of flocking to support more socialist worker parties, the move seems to be to vote "up yours", the left is disintegrating.

Of course, regarding the graph you're right - I should have looked at the axes properly. Just trying to be a smart-donkey again and it backfired.
i haven't agreed with a lot of your posts in this thread but do go along with what you have said here. There is big difference between 'wealthy' and 'high income' and I think that, particularly in the US, wealth has been an important factor in politics for very long time. Maybe not just financial wealth either - thinking of families, Adams, Roosevelt, Kennedy, maybe Bush, maybe Clinton.

Dr Fox and Mr Crabb out of the leadership race - Theresa May got more than 50% but next round is in a day or two.
And then there were two - May and Leadsom - Govexit.

A political suicide of the highest order!

That's because Andrea Leadsom withdrew from the race today because of her ill-advised &/or misreported &/or inexperienced comments about motherhood (or the lack thereof) and fitness to lead the country. She's a Mum and TM isn't.
That leaves TM as the only candidate.
Brit politics are truly fascinating for casual bystander.

Andea Leadsom's comments about motherhood were not misreported - I heard the interview.
Definitely ill-advised and/or politically naive.
She shot herself in the foot, and to her credit was wise enough to quickly withdraw from the race.
