The police officer was amazingly patient. He should get a medal!
I don't know but am assuming the person isn't black/coloured. If she was, I would have expected the outcome to have been very different.
Maybe in the midwest. California not so much.

I would also question that assumption. I know I'm going OT....

Oh wait, you're "slumped out" sleeping in a car with a gun in your lap in a drive-through at a takeaway joint.
What happened next was an atrocity because:
“If the guy had a gun on his lap but woke up suddenly of course he would reach for it because he was probably shocked.” WTF?
Plenty of issues there relating to dumb US gun laws etc, but if I was a California cop (which I'm not), I'd probably want to be armed to the back teeth, and I'd have probably shot him too.

The worthless thug who killed Laquan Macdonald was convicted exactly because he kept firing when Macdonald was no longer a threat. The evidence for this being the same strikes me as, if not crystal clear based on one video, nonetheless highly likely. Look, many US cops are borderline mentally retarded, over-aggressive thugs but even people of this class ought to know that dozens of shots at close range is more than enough to render someone no longer a threat. Whilst it has been illegal to openly carry a gun in CA since 2012, the circumstances of this are nonetheless highly shocking and suspicious. If you look at the actions of cops in otherwise comparable jurisdictions, it is quite impossible for anyone to draw any other conclusion than that other cops generally genuinely use guns as a last resort, whereas US cops predominantly take a "Better you than me!" approach and riddle people with a hail of bullets at the slightest perceived threat. The rate at which US cops kill people simply outstrip comparable countries. Sure, the US has a lot more guns and is generally a lot more violent than comparable countries and that's on the whole country to fix. But this bizarre idea that most Americans still have where the behaviour and attitudes of the cops are rarely questioned just puzzles me.
gzt:Sovereign citizen stuff. Many state and local police are trained in it now. That officer was having a long day for sure. Seems a bit of a stretch for the topic.
The New York Times - Trump Declares National Emergency to Build Border Wall
Feb. 15, 2019
WASHINGTON — President Trump declared a national emergency at the border on Friday to access billions of dollars to build a border wall that Congress refused to give him, transforming a highly charged policy dispute into a fundamental confrontation over separation of powers. ...
The New York Times - A Trump-Made Emergency
The president decides that fulfilling a campaign promise is more important than respecting the separation of powers.

With his declaration of a national emergency at the southern border, President Trump takes executive overreach to dizzying new heights.
The damage to American democracy threatens to linger long after his administration is no more than a dank memory.
Cornered into accepting a budget deal that lacked the $5.7 billion in border-wall funding he demanded, the president could not handle being labeled a loser by conservative commentators like Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity.
His solution: Sign the bill while simultaneously declaring a national emergency that, at least in his mind, would allow him to shift funds and order the military to start building his wall.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, announced the move on Thursday afternoon.
“President Trump will sign the government funding bill, and as he has stated before, he will also take other executive action - including a national emergency - to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border,” she said.
To repeat: The influx of migrant families at the southern border does not constitute a national security crisis, much less a bona fide emergency.
There is, at this point, a worsening humanitarian crisis, actively fueled by the draconian policies of the administration. But the suffering on display requires thoughtful policy adjustments, not a steel monstrosity.
Not that this is the end of this battle. Mr. Trump’s emergency declaration is destined to wind up in the courts, where it could get bogged down indefinitely.
This fit of presidential pique is about more than a wall. It constitutes a reordering of the power dynamic between the branches of government. Mr. Trump aims to usurp one of Congress’s most basic responsibilities, the power of the purse.
Confronted with this power grab, every lawmaker should be bellowing in alarm. ...

EDIT: Trivia: Trump is the first POTUS in 100 years not to own a dog.

The Washington Post - ‘I didn’t need to do this’: Trump just kneecapped his own case for a ‘national emergency’
February 15 at 12:44 PM
The idea that the situation at the border is truly a “national emergency” already strained credulity.
And at Friday’s news conference, President Trump might have just erased any doubt about his true motivation.
In the Rose Garden, Trump issued the national emergency declaration he has been threatening for more than a month.
In the process, he basically admitted he doesn’t even really see the situation at the border as an emergency.
The key quote came when the Q&A portion started.
Trump was challenged by NBC’s Peter Alexander on why he couldn’t bend Congress to his will - as he previously said a president should be able to do - rather than take unilateral action.
“I didn’t need to do this,” Trump said. “But I’d rather do it much faster.”
Trump then blamed 2020 politics for Democrats not supporting wall and repeated: "I just want to do it faster.” ...

With his “I could do the wall over a long period of time. I didn’t need to do this, but I’d rather do it much faster,” Trump just shot himself in the foot. Lawyers will have a day with this statement to characterise this as a power grab, not a true emergency.
Also Sarah Sanders was interviewed by the Muller team, regarding the Russian meeting in the Trump tower and the allegations Trump only advised his son about the meeting (when we all know now Trump himself wrote it).

That is possibly the craziest thing he has said. How to define a "do it now, do it later, thats all cool, now would be good though" as an emergency. The lawyers may as well put the statute books away and just grab a "Websters"
Are the aides scrambling yet to explain what he really meant to say?

Mind you, despite Trump's obvious statements on the Muslim ban, the Supreme Court still overruled the interim injunction in Trump v Hawaii. I wouldn't bet my house against Trump getting away with it courtesy of the USSC again. A line from Sotomayer's dissent judgment summed it up for me:
The United States of America is a Nation built upon the promise of religious liberty. Our Founders honored that core promise by embedding the principle of religious neutrality in the First Amendment. The Court’s decision today fails to safeguard that fundamental principle. It leaves undisturbed a policy first advertised openly and unequivocally as a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” because the policy now masquerades behind a façade of national-security concerns.
There's a chance that John Roberts might find some principles amongst the conservative justices. The other four rabid dogs are certain to tow the Trump line.
The New York Times - Trump Declares a National Emergency, and Provokes a Constitutional Clash (extract)
Feb. 15, 2019
... Mr. Trump’s announcement came during a freewheeling, 50-minute appearance in which he ping-ponged from topic to topic, touching on the economy, China trade talks and his coming summit meeting with North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un.
The president again suggested that he should win the Nobel Peace Prize, and he reviewed which conservative commentators had been supportive of him, while dismissing Ann Coulter*, who has not.
Sounding alternately defensive and aggrieved, Mr. Trump explained his failure to secure wall funding during his first two years in office when Republicans controlled both houses of Congress by saying, “I was a little new to the job.”
He blamed “certain people, a particular one, for not having pushed this faster,” a clear reference to former Speaker Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, a Republican.
Mr. Trump’s assertions were replete with misinformation and, when challenged by reporters, he refused to accept statistics produced by his own government that conflicted with his narrative.
“The numbers that you gave are wrong,” he told one reporter. “It’s a fake question.” ...
* Ms. Coulter fired back shortly afterward. “The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot,” she said on KABC radio in Los Angeles.

Trump declares emergency bowel movement
The Morowits Report: President Trump today declared a full-scale emergency bowel movement. Denying he is now officially obese, the President doubled down on his determination to expel the more than 1,000 hamberders left over from his White House dinner for the Clemson Tigers. As athletes who need to stay in shape, the Tigers only nibbled politely at a few of the tacky treats, yet they were somehow all gone by the next morning. At first Trump denied all knowledge. “This is a beat-up by the left-wing socialist godless anti-American press”, growled Sarah Huckabee Sanders as she wiped relish from her chin. Trump later conceded that he might have licked some mayonnaise off one of the buns. In a midnight tweet, he asserted that he had not even been present at the dinner, though Donald Junior might have passed through briefly. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has announced an investigation. In the meantime the President will be redirecting funds intended for Mexican orphans to the construction of a massive new toilet block. “I am so full of sh¡t”, he lamented.
