Ms. Coulter fired back shortly afterward. “The only national emergency is that our president is an idiot,” she said on KABC radio in Los Angeles.
The scariest thing is that a large portion of the American population won't agree with her.
The Washington Post - Trump declares his presidency to be a National Eternity
February 15 at 8:43 AM
Behind a paywall, so quoted in full ...
Does it seem like forever that Donald Trump has been president?
Just you wait.
He doesn’t spend 32 hours each and every day in “executive time” doing nothing, you know.
He reclines on a large, reinforced divan with his snacks and thinks of new ways to drive the American public insane.
He has had lots of executive time already to devote to this project, and frankly, has nothing better to do.
He has concluded that a calm, reasonable, educated citizenry is going to vote him promptly out of office at the first opportunity.
So he is doing the obvious thing: getting rid of the calm, reasonable, educated part.
This week’s episode consisted of negotiating with Congress on border security funding, then promptly going around Congress to build a wall its members deemed a waste of money.
This usurpation of congressional power could be declared a constitutional emergency, but instead Trump declared a different emergency: that Congress insisted on performing its constitutionally mandated duty of budgeting.
Now he will use this state of emergency to both subvert Congress AND use government (not Mexico’s, by the way) money to build the world’s tallest, longest campaign poster. Are you crazy yet?
Trump said he would do worse than waterboarding, and he is - on us.
Waterboarding eventually stops.
Trump never stops.
He knows that his relentlessness can break an opponent - he has broken his White House staff and the Republican Party as a whole.
It’s almost as though he read and remembered these lines from George Orwell’s 1984:
“But always - do not forget this, Winston - always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler.
Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - for ever.”
All that is left standing between Trump and Trumpism Forever is the rest of us.
He is never going to rest.
We can’t either.
EDIT:
The good news - I doubt that Trump has ever read 1984 -
too long and too many big words.

Yep. Plenty will think it's ok for the president to declare an emergency, comment "I didn't need to do this", then rush off to spend the weekend golfing.

Did President Donald Trump Install a ‘Golf Simulator’ in the White House?
On 13 February the Washington Post reported that the president had sought to keep his golf game sharp even while he was ensconced in the West Wing:
President Trump has installed a room-sized ‘golf simulator’ game at the White House, which allows him to play virtual rounds at courses all over the world by hitting a ball into a large video screen ...
Trump’s system cost about $50,000, and was put in during the last few weeks in a room in his personal quarters, a White House official said.
The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss details of the president’s private residence, said Trump had paid for the new system and the installation personally.

Trump tweets - and it gets taken down. LOL - what a loser. Breach of IP rights, because, you know, Conservatives/Republicans are the guardians of "private property".
Edit : Oh FFS - the video in the tweet has been switched, to the world's greatest liar's lies at the SOTU.

“I didn’t need to do this,” President Trump insisted at a Rose Garden appearance on Friday, as he declared a national emergency aimed at shaking loose a few billion dollars in financing for his beloved border wall.
The president’s assertion was both ludicrous and self-defeating.
If a declaration was unnecessary and the wall on track (the wall is “very very on its way,” the president said earlier in the week), how could he claim to be addressing an emergency?
As Mr. Trump explained it, “But I’d rather do it much faster.”
A presidential desire for speed does not constitute a crisis - no matter how eager a president is to camouflage his failures.
In reality, the wall is not a done deal, and Mr. Trump has spent the past few months - the past two years, really - failing to convince either Congress or Mexico to pay for it.
This week’s bipartisan spending bill, which contained no more wall money than the one over which Mr. Trump shut down the government in December, was a particularly humiliating defeat.
Desperate to save face, the president and his team cooked up a non-emergency emergency with the aim of seizing funds already appropriated for other purposes.
Currently, the plan is to pull $2.5 billion from the military’s drug interdiction program, $3.6 billion from its construction budget and $600 million from the Treasury Department’s drug forfeiture fund.
The White House plans to “backfill” the money it is taking from the Pentagon in future budgets.
And so, in a breathtaking display of executive disregard for the separation of powers, the White House is thumbing its nose at Congress, the Constitution and the will of the American people, the majority of whom oppose a border wall. ...

Thats mean! It's not his fault it wasn't published on Twitter! :-) Just 140 words works for him
Even the modern tyrants whom the president ... praises demonstrate more facility with language and more attention to governing detail than does he.
To borrow from popular culture, Trump looks less like the sinister Emperor Palpatine and more like the hapless Jar Jar Binks.

Meanwhile, Amazon (which Trump hates of course) got a tax rebate of US$ 129 million - paid no tax on profits of US$11.2 billion.
Trump is a fool, but also a tool of the mega-rich, some of whom (like Bezos) might like to be seen to be critical of Trumpism (and vice-versa), but are looting and plundering together regardless.
