The New York Times - In North Carolina, Investigators Find Ballot ‘Scheme’ in House Race

Feb. 18, 2019

RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina elections regulator said Monday that “a coordinated, unlawful and substantially resourced absentee ballot scheme” potentially involving more than 1,000 absentee ballots or request forms took place last year in the state’s Ninth Congressional District.

The regulator, Kim Strach, the executive director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections, gave the first account of investigators’ conclusions at a hearing in Raleigh that could determine the fate of the Ninth District race after allegations of widespread fraud.

The Republican nominee, Mark Harris, has a 905-vote lead over his Democratic rival, Dan McCready, but state officials last year refused to certify Mr. Harris as the winner because of concerns about “irregularities” in absentee balloting.

The hearing’s outcome could undermine Republicans’ assertions that they take a hard line against election fraud. ...

BREAKING NEWS

The Washington Post - Coalition of states sues Trump over national emergency to build border wall

February 18 at 7:56 PM

A coalition of 16 states filed a federal lawsuit Monday to block President Trump’s plan to build a border wall without permission from Congress, arguing that the president’s decision to declare a national emergency is unconstitutional.

The lawsuit, brought by states with Democratic governors, seeks a preliminary injunction that would prevent the president from acting on his emergency declaration while the case plays out in the courts.

The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, a San Francisco-based court whose judges have ruled against an array of other Trump administration policies, including on immigration and the environment.

Accusing the president of “an unconstitutional and unlawful scheme,” the suit says the states are trying “to protect their residents, natural resources, and economic interests from President Donald J. Trump’s flagrant disregard of fundamental separation of powers principles engrained in the United States Constitution.”

The complaint, filed by the attorneys general of nearly a third of the states and representing millions of Americans, immediately became the heavyweight among a rapid outpouring of opposition to the president’s emergency declaration. ...

The Washington Post -
To Trump, the media is the ‘enemy of the people.’ He should look in the mirror.

Trump is playing with fire.

By using the derogatory phrase, “enemy of the people,” he is unwittingly associating himself with the most vicious dictators of the 20th century, such as Adolf Hitler of Nazi Germany, Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union and Mao Zedong of Communist China.

Trump has never felt the need to study history, so he apparently knows little to nothing about these dictators’ frequent use of the phrase to isolate, attack and murder their political opponents - usually reporters, writers and political dissidents.

Trump has not yet paid any political price for this mindless association with these dictators.

In fact, many Republicans, whose memories stretch no further back than the Nixon administration’s attacks on the “nattering nabobs of negativism,” have cheerfully applauded Trump’s anti-media offense, no matter its historical roots. ...

Is Trump playing with fire or are the the American politicians and legal entities the ones that are playing with fire by not getting rid of him?

Trump won't change so there is only one solution. He has to be impeached, or otherwise removed, for the sake of America and the rest of the world.

And he forgot to add "except for Fox News" to his tweet!

Currently reading Madeleine Albright's Fascism: a warning. Prescient. Explains a lot and confirms my view that Trump is evil and if he could he would install a fascisrt dictatorship without a second thought.

Americans are riding such a big wave, they have no idea.

I'd say encourage him to eat more KFC. Maybe a chicken bone will do the job.

Or perhaps more of these "America’s Unhealthiest Fast Food Burgers"

I keep seeing frightening parallels with pre-war Germany. As then, Americans today are sleepwalking into a fascist-style takeover. Most of those who shout at Trump rallies have no idea what they are shouting for. A few do, and they are evil. The Democrats are being much too timid about this. They keep trying to play by the rules while Trump stomps on them. I think there is a real emergency, and action needs to be taken before it is too late. I am not willing to quote or link to anything by Hitler here, but the similarities are frightening. Practically everything Trump says could have come straight out of his mouth, and a lot has, especially his attacks on the media. Trump must be impeached or otherwise deposed. An actual coup would be dangerous and undesirable, but surely a case can be made for gross incompetence. I believe this genuinely is an emergency requiring immediate action before it is too late. His cabinet can be worked on behind the scenes. Most of these people are venal but they will act in their self-interest if they can be convinced that Trump has no future. Pence will jump at the presidency if he thinks he has a real chance. Senate Republicans must be made to see how serious this is. Politicians of every stripe all stood up together against Nixon at the end. The same has to happen with Trump. It has to happen now.

As Trump was elected by Evangelical "Christians" (debatable), I think that it would be more appropriate if Trump was struck down in a public place by an Act of God.

He knows he failed already on North Korea, so now he says "no rush whatsoever on North Korean denuclearization".

Loser.

He better expect "no rush whatsoever" on his Nobel Peace prize.

I think Trump is a shoe-in for an ig Nobel peace prize.

Previous year's winner was "Francisco Alonso, Cristina Esteban, Andrea Serge, Maria-Luisa Ballestar, Jaime Sanmartín, Constanza Calatayud, and Beatriz Alamar, for measuring the frequency, motivation, and effects of shouting and cursing while driving an automobile."
