JPNZ:

Id say a few recounts will be taking place..

Labour won Nelson by 29 seats

TPM won Tāmaki Makaurau by 4 seats

National is down 20 seats on another, there will be two recounts for them

Great result! Our next government will be Labour, Greens and Te Pāti Māori, under New Zealand First. All bow down to baubles of office PM, Winston Peters!

Oh New Zealand, what have you done?

Winston as kingmaker.

Those who don't learn from history are condemned to repeat it

How is anyone surprised by this?

I expect those that filled Nationals coffers with upwards of $8M, and ACT's upwards of $4M.
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/election-2023-national-party-banks-75-times-more-in-donations-than-labour-party/CAKRIIEYXBGMRGUNIVQ6J3NXVM/

Well they will be putting a lot of pressure on National and ACT to accommodate NZF.
You need to be Governing to get anything done.
Many import things for them is better than none.

Um those same groups may also be talking to NZF,
if you want a 'war chest' for next election there are a few things we want you to compromise on.

Apart from personalities and a bit of 'Nose Holding' what are the NZF policies that are so abhorrent ?
There is a degree of alignment with NZF on business and farm friendly policy etc.
Seems more of a match than with Labour?

Has Winston hinted that he is going fishing yet? Or has he already packed his bags and gone?

End of the day, people voted, respect that.

Te Pati Maori did very well. I'm not Maori. But ups to them. It will mean a more diverse Parliament, and we can do with that.

So, after all of Luxon's posturing, warning us about all the dangers of a "three-headed coalition"...he now gets to deal with a three-headed coalition...of his own 🙄

As for Liz Gunn, I'm pleased to see even on the special votes they barely moved the support for her. Now to watch it start tapering off. I'll be totally gobsmacked if she the willpower or stamina to make it to the next election.

Regarding the rest of the so-called "freedom" parties - so much in-fighting and finger-pointing going on amongst them today, absolutely hilarious to watch.

I would say Luxon and Winston the people voted for. Luxon was doing quite well polling-wise, until he started rabbiting on about NZ First, ruling them out then ruling them in. That's when Winston started to rise.

Re Gunn, that was referring to the comments on the previous page about her (I neglected to quote one). Apologies.

Tricky stuff

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/301002133/phone-calls-ignored-texts-and-timelines-the-clues-that-reveal-how-tough-christopher-luxon-has-it

This clip seems a bit weird

There’s a lot to work through - alongside the obvious who gets what policy and which portfolio there’s also the question of who’s going to be deputy Prime Minister (probably Peters), will Peters be foreign minister (surely if he’s not deputy PM), will Luxon give up his promise to Nicola Willis that she’ll be finance minister (Seymour wants it)

This is the classic backfire:

Seymour categorically ruled out working around the cabinet table with Peters when asked by Stuff on the campaign, “yeah, look, it's impossible to see us sitting around the Cabinet table”.

He’s now saying, in the cold hard light of power, “if they were two different seats then yes, I think that’s possible”.

What a difference three weeks can make.

With the special votes now counted, we’ve basically been delivered an entirely different election result.

Moving to Australia to live is now becoming a very real prospect for so many reasons. My special thanks to Labour for making it so much easier.

Luxon made big promises of what he (said he) could do, including getting Winston and Seymour to play together nicely/work together. Let's see if he's all talk now, or can actually carry through with what he said.

He says a lot, talks a lot, evades a lot. But, how good, average, or poor he is as a PM, its going to be difficult. No matter who is PM. ACT collides with National on not a small number of issues. And collides with NZF. National collides with NZF. Then you have the personalities. Luxon is new and he is weak. Seymour is growing, he is smart, and he wants ACT to be a force in government. Not the bit player it has been. Peters has the power, and the other two have dragged his name through the mud leading up to the election. Luxon is a subtle manner, Seymour in an outspoken manner. This is a true coalition of chaos. Now, when they finalise the arrangements and we have a majority government, it will be displayed as all good, using Luxons common phrases. But its going to be a hard road for Luxon. Same would apply to anyone else if they were PM, its a slightly toxic combination. Where personalities are more the issue than policies. Three alpha males doesnt work.
