"Always tell the truth - it's the easiest thing to remember." David Mamet

A Ny Times story alleges all sorts of obstruction of Justice, including this nugget about ormer Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski

“Privately, Mr. Trump tried to remove Mr. [Jeff] Sessions — he said he wanted an attorney general who would protect him — but did not fire him, in part because White House aides dodged the president’s orders to demand his resignation. The president even called his former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, over the Fourth of July weekend to ask him to pressure Mr. Sessions to resign. Mr. Lewandowski was noncommittal and never acted on the request,”

A reporter Corey asked if he got a call from Trump to help oust Jeff Sessions, over the Fourth of July weekend

He replies "my kids would have remember if I got a call from the President while driving to Dunkin' Donuts."

Reporter replies "who said you were driving to Dunkin' Donuts? Sounds like you did get a call"

Corey says "I don't disclose my conversations with the President"

President Trump responded to the arrest of a well-armed white supremacist Christopher Paul Hasson. Paul had a hit list that included prominent Democratic politicians as well as several journalists from CNN and MSNBC.

When asked if Trump if he had any responsibility with his rhetoric encouraging attacks, he said no, and quickly changed the subject.

February 22 at 7:57 PM

President Trump announced Friday evening that he will nominate Kelly Knight Craft, the U.S. ambassador to Canada and a major Republican donor, to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. ...

... Craft, 56, was a business executive and philanthropist before serving as ambassador to Canada.

Her husband, Joe Craft, is president and chief executive of coal producer Alliance Resource Partners.

The couple are major Republican donors, having given about $1.5 million to GOP candidates in 2016, including $270,800 to Trump’s campaign committee ...

Only the best people ...

The Washington Post - The Republicans’ big gut-check vote on Tuesday (extracts from an opinion piece)

February 23 at 4:43 PM

President Trump has declared a state of emergency to build a border wall ...

Trump’s action is an affront to all that Republicans stand for.

They claim to be pro-military, but Trump’s action would take money away from the defense budget.

They claim to be pro-property rights, but Trump’s action would result in the taking of private property along the border.

They claim to be constitutional conservatives, but Trump’s action is an obvious violation of Article I of the Constitution: “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.” ...

Now Republicans have a chance to vote their consciences, if they have any left.

The House will vote Tuesday on a resolution to repeal the state of emergency. The Senate will have its opportunity soon.

This is the most important vote that Republicans will make in their lives.

And there is every indication that almost all of them will make the wrong choice. ...

If Republicans support this unconstitutional power grab, they will have completed their transformation from the party of Reagan - a party devoted to conservative principles - to the party of Trump - a party devoted to no principle other than a desperate desire to propitiate a capricious would-be tyrant in the White House. ...

The Washington Post - House Democrats will subpoena Mueller if report is not made public

February 24 at 2:15 PM

Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) said Sunday that House Democrats will subpoena special counsel Robert S. Mueller III to testify before Congress if his report on Russian interference in the 2016 election is not made public.

Schiff, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said on ABC News’s “This Week” that Democrats will also subpoena Mueller’s report and are prepared to go to court against the Trump administration.

With Mueller’s nearly two-year investigation believed to be coming to an end, Democrats are seeking to ramp up pressure on Attorney General William P. Barr to release the full findings of the report - and setting down a marker for what course they will take if he doesn’t. ...

The New York Times - N.R.A. Magazine Draws Criticism for ‘Target Practice’ Headline With Photo of Pelosi and Giffords

Feb. 24, 2019

The March issue of the National Rifle Association’s monthly publication, The American Rifleman, features a photo of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Gabrielle Giffords, the former Democratic congresswoman from Arizona who was shot in the head during a constituent meeting in 2011.

The photo, taken last month at an announcement about proposed legislation to expand background checks for firearms purchases, carried the headline in large letters: “Target Practice.”

Despicable and tasteless, especially in view of what happened to Giffords. The NRA is a vile organisation that has been tolerated for much too long. They have nothing to do with gun rights, everything to do with fascism.

The Washington Post - Former senior national security officials to issue declaration on national emergency

February 24 at 7:00 PM

A bipartisan group of 58 former senior national security officials will issue a statement Monday saying that “there is no factual basis” for President Trump’s proclamation of a national emergency to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The joint statement, whose signatories include former secretary of state Madeleine Albright and former defense secretary Chuck Hagel, will come a day before the House is expected to vote on a resolution to block Trump’s Feb. 15 declaration. ...

Under no plausible assessment of the evidence is there a national emergency today that entitles the president to tap into funds appropriated for other purposes to build a wall at the southern border,” the group said.

Also signing were Eliot A. Cohen, State Department counselor under President George W. Bush; Thomas R. Pickering, President George H.W. Bush’s ambassador to the United Nations; John F. Kerry, Obama’s second secretary of state; Susan E. Rice, Obama’s national security adviser; Leon E. Panetta, Obama’s CIA director and defense secretary; as well as former intelligence and security officials who served under Republican and Democratic administrations. ...

The Washington Post - White House to set up panel to counter climate change consensus

February 24 at 7:24 PM

The White House plans to create an ad hoc group of select federal scientists to reassess the government’s analysis of climate science and counter conclusions that the continued burning of fossil fuels is harming the planet, according to three senior administration officials.

The National Security Council initiative would include scientists who question the severity of climate impacts and the extent to which humans contribute to the problem. ...

The New York Times - After 350 Years, Vatican Says Galileo Was Right

Let's hope that the White House takes less than 350 years to pull its finger out.

A bit of a dry 15 minute interview with Rick Wilson, Republican strategist and author of the book "Everything Trump Touches Dies: A Republican Strategist Gets Real About the Worst President Ever" joins David to discuss an anti-Trump Republican perspective on the current administration

Rick has appeared on "Real Time with Bill Maher" panel recently.

Rick calls himself a right-winger, but I'd call him a libertarian.

Title of video is misleading.
