Summary: Why is the president to blame? Response: Blaming Trump is what the terrorist wanted. The guy is crazy. We should really stop talking about it. Besides it's just a political cheap shot calling out Trump.

Shannon: The world comes to grip with another stunning act of terror. Finger-pointing inevitably on the domestic front. In here to discuss "The Hill" columnist, former CIA analyst [and conservative American radio host] Buck Sexton. Great to have you with us. You heard the discussion about the president and his words, his rhetoric to blame.

Here is what the national executive director [Nihad Awad] of CAIR had to say today.

"During the presidency and during your election campaign, this is Islamophobia and attacks on innocent immigrants and mosques have skyrocketed."

Shannon: Less than 24 hours out but what do you make of the efforts to link the president to this attack overseas?

Buck: Well this is exactly what the terrorist wanted and he made that explicit and clear about.

What we see is an evolution of this kind of attack where social media is useful for these individuals to find like-minded people to radicalize and often post an manifesto.

Now because of advancing technology easy to live stream it to make sure it gets as wide distribution as possible while it is going on.

And what he's done here, and unfortunately will see repeated in future attacks, is that he has brought in very sensitive flash points and characters and individuals he has tied to this that have nothing to do with it.

Now whenever people want to, they will have an excuse to say "Oh individual acts or individual lies inspired the New Zealand shooter."

That just goes with an initial purpose which is to create the very divisions that some people unfortunately giving oxygen to.

Shannon: Buzzfeed had a piece that said this.

"I encourage colleagues to be extraordinarily cautious in typing the ChristChurch shooter to a narrative of online radicalization. Some of the claims in the manifesto obviously sarcastic and if anything in contradicting such an interpretation."

But as you said he did talk about the fact he wanted to create division and chaos here in the US.

Buck: This guy is obviously malignant, narcissist and psychopath. When people reading through this, they should understand someone obviously clearly disturbed.

I also think when you have seen in the past people sometimes debating foreign policy maneuvers, decisions, they say "we don't want to play in the terrorist hands by picking people named in this manifesto that have nothing to do with this, that didn't inspire the attack, don't know the individual."

I don't touch on the subjects in some cases that he is so fixated on. That is, in fact playing into this terrorist hands. That is exactly what he wants. He has stated it as such.

I think the movement,especially online, to draw as much oxygen away from this individual and his attack and to try to dampen the aftermath of this such that it doesn't become something that other extremists want to replicate, that is the best you can really hope for in this circumstance to try to deal with this going forward.

Shannon: Yeah and does it now muddy the attempts to bring people together and to have Muslim community members and Jewish community members and Christian sit down and talk about the ways that they can try to root out this radicalization and support each other, and people have no faith at all.

Does this drive a wedge to have that conversation?

Buck: Certainly the terrorist in this case hope so. The strongest rebuke that we could possibly have, in New Zealand and around the world, is for as much unity and colony as possible between all peoples, people of Islamic faith, people of all faiths, and not allow him to get exactly what he wants which he wants people to do.

Unfortunately what people are doing pointing to the President of the united states and well-known figures in this country and other countries and just using this to score, really, cheap and short term political points against individuals I'm sure across the board all feel terribly about what has happened, have nothing to do with it.

They should not be the usual cheap shot routine but unfortunately this is what we have been seeing so far since this happened. I don't think we have learned much on this but I'm hoping it'll change.
