I’ve just finished Vicky Ward’s “Kushner, Inc.,” a scintillating investigation of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s White House sojourn, which comes out on Tuesday.

 

It’s full of damning details: contempt for the entitled, venal couple may be the one thing that unites all of D.C.’s warring factions.

 

Still, the first daughter and her husband remain psychologically mysterious, at least to me.

 

Why don’t they have impostor syndrome, given that their total lack of qualifications for the jobs they are doing makes them actual impostors?

 

According to “Kushner, Inc.,” Gary Cohn, former director of the National Economic Council, has told people that Ivanka Trump thinks she could someday be president.

 

“Her father’s reign in Washington, D.C., is, she believes, the beginning of a great American dynasty,” writes Ward.

 

Kushner, whose pre-White House experience included owning a boutique newspaper and helming a catastrophically ill-timed real estate deal, has arrogated to himself substantial parts of American foreign policy.

 

According to Ward, shortly after Rex Tillerson was confirmed as secretary of state, Kushner told him “to leave Mexico to him because he’d have Nafta wrapped up by October.”

 

As political actors, the couple are living exemplars of the Dunning-Kruger effect, a psychological phenomenon which leads incompetent people to overestimate their ability because they can’t grasp how much they don’t know. ...

The guy was a war monger, worse than Bush and Cheney. He supported the arming of Syrian rebels and criticised Obama for not authorising the supplying of weapons for the rebels.

US President Donald Trump is publicly feuding with the husband of one of his closest advisors.

 

For months, George Conway - spouse of White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway - has been taking shots at Trump on the President's own favourite social network, Twitter.

 

Trump largely ignored him until this week, when George Conway questioned his mental state, suggesting the President was showing "signs of serious mental instability" and shouldn't have "command over the world's second-largest arsenal of nuclear weapons". ...

Along with many other things, his obsession with a dead man is clear evidence of a serious mental disorder. He belongs in an institution.

Trump sidelined everyone when it comes to North Korea:

 

President Donald Trump has taken increased control of negotiations over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, sidelining his own top negotiator and dismissing the warnings of top intelligence and foreign policy advisors in the wake of last month’s failed summit in Vietnam, officials familiar with the developments tell TIME.

 

In recent days, Trump shut down an effort by Stephen Biegun, nominally the Administration’s lead negotiator with Pyongyang, to reestablish a back channel through the North’s United Nations mission in New York, according to four U.S. and South Korean officials.

 

At the same time, Trump continues to dismiss the conclusions of the CIA, State and Defense Departments and other agencies that North Korea will not abandon its nuclear weapons program, continuing to insist that he and Kim can negotiate a deal, according to two U.S.officials.

 

Trump has long said that he believes he can negotiate a deal himself to relieve economic sanctions on North Korea in exchange for a pledge by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to abandon the nuclear program begun by his grandfather, Kim Il-sung, North Korea’s founder, and continued by his father, Kim Jong-il.
