This is the sort of thing that annoys me. Colbert an establishment shill grilling Tulsi Gabbard because she's not a war monger.

From Wiki: "Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's since 2013. She became the first Samoan American and the first Hindu member of the United States Congress. She is a member of the Democratic Party."

She's running for president.

Colbert was playing the devil's advocate. She's a soldier, and has taken a firm stand against several conflicts.

He was asking questions to let her air those beliefs.

Considering she's almost completely unknown outside of Hawaii, I think he did her a great favor.

Certainly gives her some much needed recognition in a crowded field.

Did you read anything about the response/actions to the natural disaster in Puerto Rico?

@NZGamingIcon: The only good qualities he really has is that he isn't a globalist and that he isn't starting wars. Which are two qualities that a lot of US presidents lacked.

To make sure we are talking the same thing, perhaps you could define "globalist"? because for me "globalist" is a someone that define their foreign and economical policies taking a world view into account, instead of some "nationalist" policy which is most of the times isolationist, fear inducing of foreigners and some times plain racist.

Republicans simply don't have a plan. They had ten years to come up with something but the only they can do is to take away rights from people and replace with nothing. They would if this didn't mean they'll lose an election - they don't care for anyone below a certain economical line - i.e. if you're rich you're an ok person for them.

A House panel voted Tuesday to subpoena a former White House official accused of overturning denials for security clearances after a whistleblower complained that the Trump administration had put the nation’s most guarded secrets in jeopardy.

The Oversight and Reform Committee voted 22 to 15, along party lines, to force Carl Kline, the former White House personnel security director, to answer questions as part of its ongoing investigation into the security clearance process.

The move represents one of the committee’s first compulsory measures aimed at the administration and follows whistleblower Tricia Newbold’s allegation that Trump’s White House has behaved recklessly with national security.

Newbold, a nearly two-decade veteran of the security clearance process who still works in the White House, told the panel in late March that Kline, then her direct manager, overruled multiple clearance denials and then retaliated against her when she objected. ...

President Trump, in his most recent rebuke of Central American nations for what he says is their failure to address the issue of migration, announced plans to cut off aid to three nations — Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador — known as the Northern Triangle.

Critics of the cuts say they will target programs aimed at preventing violence, curbing extreme poverty and hunger, and strengthening the justice system — the very problems residents of those countries give for leaving home and pursuing a more stable future elsewhere.

Apparently it took around two years for the funding of these programmes to actually reach the 'ground' (gotta love a good bureaucracy!), so I understand there's little evidence at this point to show whether the spending had any impact.

But, one line I heard this morning suggested the timing is such that, should it result in increasing the numbers trying to get into the US from these three countries, it may do so just in time for next year's primaries and election. Good timing for someone to poke that particular bear even more...

“FOX & FRIENDS” BLAMES OBAMA FOR CREATING ADDITIONAL MEXICOS

NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report)—After praising Donald J. Trump, on Sunday, for cutting aid to “three Mexican countries,” the cast of “Fox & Friends” blamed former President Barack Obama for creating additional Mexicos during his tenure in the White House.

“When Barack Obama took office, there was only one Mexico,” the host Ed Henry said. “He allowed these additional Mexicos to develop.”

Henry’s co-host Jedediah Bila agreed that the problem of multiple Mexicos was Obama’s fault. “It was bad enough having one Mexico without Obama going out and creating a bunch of new ones,” she said, noting that there had been a three-hundred-per-cent increase in the number of Mexicos on Obama’s watch.

The third host, Pete Hegseth, praised Trump for doing everything in his power to “reduce the number of Obama’s Mexicos.”

“Everyone agrees that there are way too many Mexicos right now,” he said.

Later in the day, the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said that, after watching “Fox & Friends,” President Trump was committed to finding out “just how many Mexicos there are,” and that he had put the Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, in charge of counting them.

Believe it or not there are stories of people being stopped flying because TSA agents wouldn't believe New Mexico was a state.

Also Florida TSA agents stopped people with new drivers licence from District of Columbia because "it is not a state" completely ignoring it is actually Washington D.C.

But hey, Trump.

The New York Times - Subpoena for Mueller Report and Documents Approved by House Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON — The House Judiciary Committee authorized its chairman on Wednesday to use a subpoena to try to force the Justice Department to give Congress a full copy of the special counsel’s report and all of the underlying evidence used to reach his conclusions.

The chairman, Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York, said he would not immediately issue the subpoena.

But the party-line vote won by Democrats who control the committee ratchets up pressure on Attorney General William P. Barr as he decides how much of the nearly 400-page report to share with lawmakers.

“I will give him time to change his mind,” Mr. Nadler said in his opening statement. “But if we cannot reach an accommodation, then we will have no choice but to issue subpoenas for these materials.”

The committee also approved subpoenas for five former White House aides who Democrats said were relevant to an investigation into possible obstruction of justice, abuse of power and corruption within the Trump administration.

They included Donald F. McGahn II, a former White House counsel; Stephen K. Bannon, the president’s former chief strategist; Hope Hicks, a former White House communications director; Reince Priebus, the president’s first chief of staff; and Annie Donaldson, a deputy of Mr. McGahn. ...
