Forecast thunderstorms for Auckland went to the East and South of Auckland.

Once again Labour fails to deliver.

That's a bit harsh. I know they've pretty well failed at everything they've tried to do but I've never had any faith that they would be able to control the weather. Having said that no doubt they'd be quick take the credit if the weather forecast turned out to be correct.

Yep, just like they are very quick to get the face in the picture of ant sporting team that does well.

Its not as though politicians have anything to do with th sport or the teams but them seem to like taking credit...

Actually gender is a very complex situation. Its not binary as you would like it, never has been, it was just hidden and now its accepted and can be seen.

The ONLY persons sexual preference I care about is my own, I have no interest in being a part of someone else's identity.

I have friends, family, work colleagues across the whole spectrum, and none of it is my business, nor has it stopped these people from being good people.

If you don't like it, look at something different, take up a hobby .

This governments spending hasn't fueled inflation. Yeah right.

This article spells it out. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/budget-2022-how-2-billion-of-emergency-covid-funds-were-redirected/ZRM7IZUCHJHNXLENDOSC2BXKWM/

It's paywalled but here's an excerpt.

“We understand you are interested in reprioritising CRRF funding that is expected to remain unallocated in order to alleviate pressure on the Budget 2022 operating allowance. We have previously advised you that we do not recommend using time-limited funding from CRRF to manage the impact of ongoing spending,” the Treasury wrote to Robertson in a March briefing.

Nevertheless, an April 11 Cabinet Paper documents that ministers hastily reprioritised $2.05b from the $3.25b remaining in the fund, meaning the money could be spent on Government priorities.

Former deputy chief economic adviser to the Treasury, Tony Burton, said the Government’s move was an “abuse of process” as it is laid out in the Public Finance Act and that it had effectively turned Covid-19 emergency funds into “an election slush fund that will force the Government after 2023 to either put up taxes, borrow or cut spending”.

From the most transparent government.

The hits keep coming on what looks increasingly poorly thought out 3 waters plan. Cabinet will now meet (again) after fundamental constitutional issues were raised!

Also,

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/budget-2022-how-2-billion-of-emergency-covid-funds-were-redirected/ZRM7IZUCHJHNXLENDOSC2BXKWM/

Some Snippets:

Finance Minister Grant Robertson padded Budget 2022 with $2.05 billion from the remnants of the Covid-19 Response and Recovery Fund contrary to his undertakings that the enormous pot of emergency money be limited to direct, pandemic-related spending and over the Treasury’s objections.

The Government took $1.05b from the fund and “reprioritised” the money to spend on the “cost of living payment” and extended cost reductions for motorists, both rushed into existence in light of surging inflation and polling that suggested a related ebb in the Labour Party’s popularity.

Robertson says the Government was transparent at Budget time and that the fund was closed before any money was redirected.

and

The second $1b raided from the CRRF at Budget time was even more opaque and remained unreported.

Cabinet to discuss whether current retail store crime (ram raids) are effective and should be extended.

I think we are at 90 days consecutively with Ram raids in Auckland, so my answer to that is... Nope, not effective. I don't think many retail stores like alcohol and dairies, feel safe right now.

Crazy! I think people had a reasonable expectation of a better response than has happened.

Whilst the ram raids are no doubt an outcome of other issues, the response shows that we have an ineffective government, ineffective police minster and ineffective police commissioner.

I am constantly amazed by the lack of response from a government less than a year out from an election with such a high-profile problem.

I am prepared to give the PM the credit for walking back on this one if she does so. Leadership is about making a decision that something you may have done isn't the right thing and accepting you might need to find a better way of doing it.

But there's still serious questions about how this came up and why Labour + the Greens voted for it in the first place. Between this and the noises coming out of Willie Jackson about things 'one person, one vote' being past their use-by date, it's starting to feel like the PM has lost control of some bits of her caucus.

If it's not been done properly, then they should walk it back and do it properly, but who is going to be held responsible for what is likely to have been 10's of millions in getting to this stage? I'm going to guess no-one as has been the case in every other instance of failure.

But like you say, if it's going to be a disaster, regardless of the consequences, it needs to be looked at.

So 4K to help dairy owners with fog cannons. Interesting approach. I guess you can treat the symptom, or we could try some preventative things. Why did it take 6 months of ram raids to come up with this brilliant plan? I guess now that someone died, it's a serious problem before it was just a minor inconvenience.

I believe you're referring to a provision which required a 60% vote in parliament in the event a future government proposes to sell water assets to a private sector entity.

The fog cannon initiative is a response to the recent robbery in Sandringham and the subsequent death of a retail worker. That aspect of the initiative is not intended to mitigate ram raids. It expands on two previous fog cannon initiatives one of which was started by a National government that this particular dairy did not qualify under.

I guess it went through the select committee process without anyone (including opposition members) objecting. I wonder if this means the issue was raised by the Attorney General or Governor General, or possibly even an MP using some less formal channel.
