Boris is no more or less ethical than any other Brit politician. Corbyn would sell his soul for the keys to No 10.

 

And Boris is way smarter than Trump where politics are concerned.

Donald Trump has started his visit to Ireland by comparing its post-Brexit border with Northern Ireland to the US border with Mexico, along which he wants to build a permanent wall.

 

Trump, sitting next to a visibly uncomfortable taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, waded into the Brexit debate minutes after Air Force One touched down at Shannon airport on Wednesday afternoon.

 

“I think it will all work out very well, and also for you with your wall, your border,” he said at a joint press conference. “I mean, we have a border situation in the United States, and you have one over here. But I hear it’s going to work out very well here.”

Varadkar interjected that Ireland wished to avoid a border or a wall, a keystone of Irish government policy.

“I think you do, I think you do,” Trump said. “The way it works now is good, you want to try and to keep it that way. I know that’s a big point of contention with respect to Brexit. I’m sure it’s going to work out very well. I know they’re focused very heavily on it.”

 

 

What on earth or mars is going on in the moron's head? It's hard to think of any argument of how he'd benefit in any way from saying something so completely clueless. It'd be a stretch to see how even the most moronic of his MAGA cheer squad could take anything positive out of that.  Maybe they forgot to pressurise the cabin of AF1 and he's had some kind of cranial "event".

To have Donald Trump - the bone-spur evader of the Vietnam draft, the coddler of autocrats, the would-be destroyer of the European Union, the pay-up-now denigrator of NATO, the apologist for the white supremacists of Charlottesville - commemorate the boys from Kansas City and St. Paul who gave their lives for freedom is to understand the word impostor. You can’t make a sculpture from rotten wood.

 

It’s worth saying again. If Europe is whole and free and at peace, it’s because of NATO and the European Union; it’s because the United States became a European power after World War II; it’s because America’s word was a solemn pledge; it’s because that word cemented alliances that were not zero-sum games but the foundation for stability and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic.

 

Of this, Trump understands nothing.

 

Therefore he cannot comprehend the sacrifice at Omaha Beach 75 years ago. He cannot see that the postwar trans-Atlantic achievement - undergirded by the institutions and alliances he tramples upon with such crass truculence - was in fact the vindication of those young men who gave everything. ...

Bullock’s challenge to IRS donor disclosure rules faces test

An attempt by two states to force the Trump administration to resume collecting information about donors to certain nonprofit groups faces a key test Wednesday when a federal judge in Montana hears arguments about whether the states can challenge the IRS policy.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, a 2020 presidential candidate, and New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal sued the Internal Revenue Service after it ended a 40-year-old requirement last year that social-welfare groups, labor unions and business associations turn over the names and addresses of their donors who contribute more than $5,000.

Bullock says the rule change is part of a free-wheeling campaign finance culture that undermines democracy, particularly at a time when U.S. intelligence agencies have confirmed Russian interference in American elections. The rule change, Bullock argues, would make foreign money essentially untraceable in campaigns.

“Fundamentally, this is really about whether government is going to work for individuals or dark money groups and outside spending,” he said in an interview ahead of Wednesday’s hearing.

The 53-year-old governor is has made campaign-finance disclosure a key issue in his bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination as he looks to stand out among the nearly two dozen candidates. “If elected officials are essentially going to be like NASCAR, bought and paid for by different groups with labels all over ‘em, at least we ought to know who is doing the buying and selling,” he said.

Bullock and other state officials in the suit argue that the Trump administration’s action makes it easier for deep-pocketed donors to hide their political spending by funneling money anonymously to tax-exempt groups that aim to influence elections under the guise of educational and issue ads.

The donor disclosure forms filed by groups that are registered under section 501c(4) of the U.S. tax code have never been available to the public. But the policy change cuts off one of the only avenues government regulators have to investigate whether foreign money is being funneled to those groups, said Brendan Fischer, the director of the federal reform program of the Washington, D.C.-based Campaign Legal Center.

“If Russia or another country wants to influence the 2020 elections, they might give their money to a 501c(4),” he said.

The IRS’ failure to collect the donor information makes it difficult for state officials to track suspicious campaign activity, determine who’s following the law and alert fraud victims, attorneys for the states plan to argue.

Until 2016 everyone loved Biden. Every time he appeared with Obama everyone would just go over the moon.

Now you see everyone complaining. Mostly Democrats obviously. But most importantly, they see destroying themselves by not getting behind a candidate. Any candidate.

Trump will win 2020. Because Americans will give if to him without even a fight. They are just stupid.

It's hard to disagree with this.

Trump is breathtakingly corrupt and unfit for office. And the GOP have 100% fallen in line behind Trump now, and as a result are completely complicit in all of this. But the Democrats seem too incompetent to do anything about it.

 

The refusal of the Democratic leadership of even initiating impeachment proceedings still completely astounds me. It's true that impeachment is almost guaranteed to fail at the Senate. But the proceedings themselves allow for a lot more information to be scrutinized and put in front of the voting public.

I keep wondering if there is be some kind of clever end-game they're working towards. But I honestly think that they're too ill equipped to deal with Trump's daily shattering of political norms. So Trump will keep on pushing forward, and American democracy will continue to weaken and erode.

In desperate times you cling to whatever hope you  can. Nixon was re-elected with a crushing majority. Then he overreached and shot himself in the foot and would have been impeached if he hadn't resigned. Like Nixon, Trump is his own worst enemy. He doesn't even have Nixon's criminal cunning. There is still hope.

The Dems might as well just go for it or they are toast.

 

So Pelosi/Shumer/Sanders/Biden - off to the retirement home by the end of business today. Then get behind one of the new, young and energetic candidates so that it makes it even more obvious  that Trump is the old, decrepit fool that we all here know he is.
