I still haven't seen an answer regarding this ""In fact, there seem to be some ministries who aren't performing any of their key functions." "
NZTA being incapable of maintaining the integrity of the WOF system springs to mind. That's before you get into the appalling handling of business cases and the oft-delayed-without-explanation-or-consequence delivery of projects like Waterview (months late), Transmission Gully (likely to be years late).
IRD has had such a high turnover of staff that they took investigators off cases and had them manning the phones for months.
So, was it their fault, or the fault of the government cost cutting ?
And as I said, private industry is no better, big projects delivered late, cost over runs, bankruptcies , subbies not being paid
Why did IRD have a high turn over ?, people leaving to get better wages ? But everyone knows civil servants get huge holidays and are paid too much (where as they get the same holidays as everyone else and are generally paid lower than industry)
And was it not private industry that abused the WOF system ?
I am sure if MOT went out to check the private WOF companies and punished the hell out of them, people would be complaining about the date of tax payers money because private industry knows what it is doing, and how dare they put small businesses out of business with their over the top regime .
And is it not private industry that did the actual work on waterview tunnel and transmission gully ?
And was it not private industry that designed and built the CTV building in Christchurch ?
And how exactly do you know no one is held accountable, are you privy to employment matters in all of these departments ?
And what about all that sub standard steel that was bought in by private industry from China
Look at all of the throw away garbage private businesses bring in to sell.
There is a saying something like "privatise the profits, socialise the costs"
It does not matter what government does, in some people eyes they will always be doing it wrong.
