Epstein has"committed suicide".
Under more normal circumstances, apply Hanlon's razor, negligence and stupidity might work as an answer.
I think this will be talked about in 100 years, spawning thousands of conspiracy theories, I wonder which ones will stick.
The Washington Post - Jeffrey Epstein dead after apparent suicide in New York jail
August 10 at 2:42 PM
Jeffrey Epstein, the politically connected financier and registered sex offender charged recently with sexually abusing dozens of young girls in the early 2000s, has died by "apparent suicide" while in jail, and the FBI is investigating, the Bureau of Prisons said Saturday.
Epstein, 66, was found unresponsive in his cell in the special housing unit of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York about 6:30 a.m., the Bureau of Prisons said. Two law enforcement officials said he was found hanging in his cell ...
Epstein had been taken off suicide watch one week after an "apparent" suicide attempt last month.
Many people wanted him dead ...

Epstein would have known a lot of dirt about a lot of big players. This 'suicide' stinks as much as he did.

I'm not usually prone to fall for CT, but I just watched "The Family" on Netflix - frustrating inconclusive but somewhat informative in terms of rationalising what the hell happened over the past few years (decades). Maybe it (the show) was CT, but rationally explains the bizarre pairing of Trump/Pence, the misogyny, the endorsement of Trump by evangelicals, and Trump's praise of strong men. According to the documentary, that's the deal, they're (strong leaders) chosen by God/Jesus, so you accept that, let them rape, pillage and murder because Jesus works through " men as imperfect vessels" help them with their authoritarianism, and try to fire some Jesus at them - because that's the important thing, apparently.
...controversial religious belief among some Protestant Christians, who hold that financial blessing and physical well-being are always the will of God for them, and that faith, positive speech, and donations to religious causes will increase one's material wealth. ...if humans have faith in God, he will deliver security and prosperity.
... sickness and poverty are viewed as curses to be broken by faith. This is believed to be achieved through donations of money, visualization, and positive confession.
...Prosperity theology has been criticized by leaders from various Christian denominations ...who maintain that it is irresponsible, promotes idolatry, and is contrary to scripture. Secular as well as some Christian observers have also criticized prosperity theology as exploitative of the poor. The practices of some preachers have attracted scandal and some have been charged with financial fraud.
Andrew Carnegie in 1889 describes the responsibility of philanthropy by the new upper class of self-made rich. Carnegie proposed that the best way of dealing with the new phenomenon of wealth inequality was for the wealthy to utilize their surplus means in a responsible and thoughtful manner.
Carnegie argued that surplus wealth is put to best use (i.e. produces the greatest net benefit to society) when it is administered carefully by the wealthy. Carnegie also argues against wasteful use of capital in the form of extravagance, irresponsible spending, or self-indulgence, instead promoting the administration of said capital over the course of one's lifetime toward the cause of reducing the stratification between the rich and poor. As a result, the wealthy should administer their riches responsibly and not in a way that encourages "the slothful, the drunken, the unworthy".

Trump's WH looking at taking another step toward autocratic fascism via executive order:
The White House is reportedly moving to regulate “anti-conservative” social media
The Trump administration may be preparing to implement rules to combat what it perceives to be a left-wing bias among tech companies that would affect the content distributed on platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
The White House reportedly has been drafting an executive order, “Protecting Americans from Online Censorship,” that would ask the Federal Communications Commission to develop regulations around how tech platforms take down or suppress content. The draft is said to call on the Federal Trade Commission to apply these new rules in any investigations or lawsuits of these companies.
"In practice, this executive order would mean that whichever political party is in power could dictate what speech is allowed on the Internet."
This proposal follows through from Trump (and supporters) whining that Social Media companies have banned people for posting material advocating violence, racism, and other forms of hate speech.
There's also this tweet from a few weeks ago:
So, in opposing fascism you'd be considered to be a member of a "Major Organisation of Terror", presumably if you posted anti-fascist material on social media, the owner of the social media site could be forced to take down the material posted by "Terrorists". The owner of this site could be in big trouble...
Another tweet:
A couple of notes. It's being circulated on Trump-friendly sites that this is "fake news" and not in fact from AF's diaries. Snopes have checked, and given it a tickCorrect Attribution.
Also true she was a stateless person (effectively a refugee), and the people who helped her were criminals under the laws at the time.
