The Washington Post - As the whistleblower story gets worse for Trump, his corruption keeps spreading

September 19

Shockingly, it turns out that President Trump appears to be directly implicated in the remarkable tale of the mysterious whistleblower complaint that has yet to be transmitted to Congress, in direct violation of the law.

The new details emerging about Trump’s involvement in this story are damning on their own.

But they also illustrate a broad theme of the Trump presidency: how his enablers keep wheeling the machinery of government into action to insulate his corruption from accountability.

The Post reports that the whistleblower who submitted a complaint to the intelligence community’s inspector general did so after growing alarmed by a call Trump held with an unspecified foreign leader.

Former officials tell The Post that the whistleblower was particularly troubled by some sort of “promise” Trump made to that leader.

This new reporting also sheds light on how this process has been deeply perverted to prevent the facts of this situation from reaching Congress.

To quickly recap, acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire failed to transmit the whistleblower’s complaint to Congress’ intelligence committees, even though the DNI inspector general deemed it “credible” and of “urgent concern,” triggering a statutory requirement that he do so.

Maguire has continued to refuse, citing specious legal reasoning. ...

It won't make a lick of difference. The Mueller report outlined at least ten separate examples of direct obstruction of justice, and nothing was done. It also said that collusion could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt (which is a burden far greater than the one required for impeachment), largely due to this obstruction.

Nothing will be done here either, and the GOP will bend over backwards to defend why this is all OK (in the meantime ensuring they're not eating burgers with dijon mustard while wearing tan suits).

The problem is that the office of the President is given broad powers. So when Trump declassifies state secrets, he actually is allowed to do that (as he loves to point out). But there are vague wordings around Presidents not taking actions that would harm the interests of the United States, and it is because of this vagueness that the GOP are doing logical gymnastics to excuse Trump every time he betrays his country.

TRUMP CONSIDERS SENDING DRONE TO MIDDLE EAST

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Donald Trump is sowing discord among his foreign-policy advisers with a controversial plan to send a drone to the Middle East, White House insiders report.

According to sources familiar with the heated discussions, the opposition to Trump’s plan stems from the belief of many in his inner circle that the drone proposed for the mission is totally ill-equipped and doomed to miserable failure.

“There is virtually no enthusiasm for this particular drone,” one source said. “Trump is the only person who thinks that it has any use whatsoever.”

Fears abound that, if the drone were employed in the Middle East, it would immediately stray off course, due to its near-total lack of an even rudimentary guidance system.

“This drone is essentially the opposite of a smart weapon,” the source said. “Even if you tell it what to do, it cannot perform the simplest tasks. Every mission it has been sent on thus far has been a catastrophic embarrassment.”

Despite the widespread contempt for the drone, there is a faction in the White House that believes that sending it to the Middle East might still serve a useful purpose. “At least it wouldn’t be here anymore,” the source said.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

President Trump pressed the leader of Ukraine to investigate the son of former vice president Joe Biden in a call between the two leaders that is at the center of an extraordinary whistleblower complaint ...

Trump used the July 25 conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to pressure the recently elected leader to more aggressively pursue an investigation that Trump believed would deliver potential political dirt against one of the president’s political adversaries ...

The revelation that Trump pushed Zelensky to pursue the Biden probe, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, represents the most detailed account so far of the president’s conduct that prompted a U.S. intelligence official to file a whistleblower action against the president.

The disclosure comes amid new details about the White House’s role in preventing acting director of national intelligence Joseph Maguire from complying with congressional demands for the material in the complaint. ...

The thing about Trump is that he is inherently corrupt and dishonest, but he is also unintelligent and willfully ignorant. I think because he is unintelligent and ignorant, he often genuinely doesn't realise when he crosses a line and is genuinely surprised when he gets called out for it. That in no way excuses his behaviour. It is just an observation. Americans elected an ass as their leader and they are paying the price.
