Hopefully there'll be a new nursery rhyme called "Art of the squeal":

"...this little piggy went to jail, and the hookers went wee wee wee all over the bed.."

That assumes the fatberg doesn't dislodge between his ears, and causes a heart-attack before he's locked up.

Luckily Trump set a precedent for going after the children of political opponents.

As it happens, none of his claims are true.

While both G.D.P. and employment have registered solid growth, the Trump economy simply seems to have continued a long expansion that began under Barack Obama.

In fact, someone who looked only at the past 10 years of data would never guess that an election had taken place.

But now it’s starting to look as if Trump really will achieve something unique: He may well be the first president of modern times to preside over a slump that can be directly attributed to his own policies, rather than bad luck. ...

But unlike previous presidents, who were just unlucky to preside over slumps, Trump has done this to himself, largely by choosing to wage a trade war he insisted would be “good, and easy to win.” ...

I'm not sure why the Senator from Nebraska released a statement in Omaha, but here you go...

Each state gets two senators, and Ben Sasse colleague Don Bacon wasn't quite as strong.

Senator Ben Sasse, Republican Nebraska, took issue Thursday with President Donald Trump urging China to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son’s business dealings there.

“Hold up: Americans don’t look to Chinese commies for the truth,” Sasse said in a written statement to The Omaha World-Herald. “If the Biden kid broke laws by selling his name to Beijing, that’s a matter for American courts, not communist tyrants running torture camps.”

...The president’s Thursday comments drew condemnation from Democrats who said Trump is now publicly encouraging foreign powers to interfere in U.S. elections.

They suggested that he’s doing so in the hope that evidence that he’s encouraged such interference privately won’t seem so bad.

But Representative Don Bacon, Republican Nebraska, rejected those suggestions.

“It’s saying ‘Hey did he do something wrong? Let us know,’ ” Bacon said of Trump’s statements about China and Biden. “I don’t condone it. ... I wouldn’t do it. But I don’t think that’s messing with our elections.”

...Representative Jeff Fortenberry, Republican Nebraska, said that the Justice Department hasn’t found a violation of the law by the president and that Congress needs “less drama, more work.”

And Representative Adrian Smith, Republican Nebraska, describes impeachment as a distraction from important issues.

Senators Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley, both Iowa Republicans, have criticized the House impeachment push.

But Grassley did issue a statement early this week standing up for the rights of the whistleblower in the case. Grassley said that person appears to have followed the laws and ought to be protected.

“No one should be making judgments or pronouncements without hearing from the whistleblower first and carefully following up on the facts,” he said. “Uninformed speculation wielded by politicians or media commentators as a partisan weapon is counterproductive and doesn’t serve the country.”

The Treasury Department’s acting inspector general has opened an investigation into whether the Trump administration acted improperly during its ongoing fight with House Democrats over releasing President Trump’s tax returns.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has refused to comply with a request from House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-Mass.) for six years of the president’s business and financial returns.

Democrats have said a 1924 law explicitly gives them the authority to request the documents, but Mnuchin has denied the request, and now the matter is pending in federal court.

A focus of the fight is the mandatory audit program that the Internal Revenue Service conducts on the president’s and vice president’s tax returns. ...

Trump has broken decades of precedent by refusing to reveal his tax returns.

He has given a variety of explanations as to why he won’t make them public, saying that they are under audit or that they are too complicated for people to understand. ...

Chairmen of the House Oversight, Intelligence and Foreign Affairs committees issued a subpoena to White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney for documents as part of the impeachment inquiry into Trump. The letter compels Mulvaney to produce the records by Oct. 18.

“Your failure or refusal to comply with the subpoena, including at the direction or behest of the President or others at the White House, shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the House’s impeachment inquiry and may be used as an adverse inference against you and the President,” wrote chairmen Elijah E. Donald Trump’s Oval Office performance-art masterpiece Wednesday was one for the ages, a pity-party, stompy-foot screech session by President Snowflake von Pissypants, the most put-upon man ever to hold the highest office in the land.

If you watched his nationally televised press conference, Trump’s shrill, eye-popping hissy fit scanned like the end of a long, coke-fueled bender where the itchy, frenzied paranoia is dry-humping the last ragged gasps of the earlier party-powder fun.

Between calling Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) a panoply of Trumpish insults (and for the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee to be held for treason), engaging in his usual hatred of the press, talking about Mike Pompeo’s intimate undergarments, and quite obviously scaring the sh*t out of Finnish President Sauli Niinisto - who looked like he was the very unwilling star of an ISIS hostage video - Trump spent the day rapidly decompensating, and it was a hideous spectacle.

All the Maximum Leader pronunciamentos won’t change the reality that Donald John Trump, 45th president of the United States, has lost his sh*t. ...

Trump’s manic performance Wednesday was distressing to watch, even for his supporters.

Far from being the master of transgressive politics, his anger and frustration are evident and ugly.

He’s lost control of the story and of himself.

Trump can’t keep the process running on his terms and his timetable, and it’s driving him deeper into what I call the Eccentric Dictator Phase of his Presidency.

Few people on either side of the political divide understand that this is the new normal.

We’re in for months of a slow-boil constitutional crisis as Team Trump mounts a game defense of an indefensible president and his indefensible acts by claiming unlimited executive powers and total immunity from the law and justice.

We’re in for a reshaping of the political battlefield of 2020 from the top down.

It’s going to get very, very ugly...

The Washington Post - Trump’s latest move to fend off impeachment might be his dumbest yet

On Friday, the president demanded that the full House must vote before it proceeds on an impeachment inquiry, and said he would not comply with any congressional requests for documents or testimony until it does.

He should be careful what he asks for.

The possibility for such a showdown has been in the air for days, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) brought up a subject that apparently hasn’t occurred to the White House: “The people who are most afraid of a vote on the floor are the Republicans. ...”

As evidence of impropriety mounts each day, and public support for the inquiry grows, do they [Republicans] really want to cast a vote that says, “Nothing to see here"?

And once the resolution passes, what happens then? Trump’s bluff will have been called.

To resist handing over necessary materials at that point only bolsters a case for obstruction of justice, which is an impeachable offense.

By forcing the House to play its hand, Trump may find out that he’s the one who is holding the losing cards.
