In 1791, the US founding fathers codified the separation of church and state. The relevant part of the First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

Despite their best efforts Afghanistan, Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Vatican City and Yemen may soon welcome a new member to theocracies

Nice summation in the US by Charlie Kirk at Turning Point PAC, who knows exactly what God wants:

"The Democrat party support everything that God hates"

Charlie Kirk Hypes Up Trump With Terrifying, Fascist Speech: The New Republic

Right-wing activist Charlie Kirk went full fake fanatic during a campaign event for Donald Trump, attacking Democrats and urging U.S. pastors to break the law.

During the event Wednesday night in Duluth, Georgia, meme-loving fascist Kirk gave the audience a taste of the wildly divisive, incendiary, pseudo-religious rhetoric he’s been trotting out on Trump’s behalf.

“The Democrat Party supports everything that God hates,” Kirk said to cheers. “The Democrat Party is espousing the death of the unborn, the mutilation of our teenage kids, open borders, the destruction of our sovereignty, the elimination of our currency status.

“I believe there is a spiritual battle happening around all of us, but don’t expect a spiritual–uh” he said, appearing to choke on the words. “A spiritual victory, if our own pastors do not engage.

“Right now, this state is a Christian state, I want to see that to continue. But we need the faithful, we need those of you that have influence over your congregation to put pressure on your pastors,” Kirk said, making a call to action.

Kirk then addressed any pastors that might be watching. “I hope you give a Sunday sermon, and you talk about how the Democrat Party believes everything that God hates,” he said.

In articles talking about the Trump bettor, I've seen him called a "whale" (also known as a "high-roller")

Whales, or high rollers, can affect betting odds. A large bet from a whale sometimes lead to slightly better odds, especially if their bet indicates strong confidence or insider knowledge. However, bookmakers are quick to adjust and manage their exposure, so the improvement in odds for the high roller is usually marginal and temporary.

In short, it may have been an attempt to give Trump the victory by giving him a temporary boost in the polls.

In other words, usually an extremely large bet usually reduces the winning odds, so don't try this from home :)

Polymarket says mystery Trump bettor is French national: Reuters

The mystery bettor on election gambling site Polymarket who made large bets on a Trump election victory is a French national who took a position based on a personal view of the presidential race, Polymarket said in a statement on Thursday.

Four accounts have bet heavily on Trump winning, with the total potential payout of those wagers standing at about $46 million as of Thursday, according to the website.

The bets, coming with the rise in Trump's odds on Polymarket, raised questions by social media users about whether they were swaying the markets or whether prediction markets were simply a better leading indicator of the race.

Opinion polls have indicated a statistical dead heat between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. On Polymarket, however, Trump's chances have soared in recent weeks to 62% versus Harris's 38%.

Polymarket said that it had contacted the French national, who had extensive trading experience and a background in financial services, confirming an earlier report in the New York Times. It conducted an investigation and concluded that the trader was taking crypto-fueled bets based on "personal views of the election", it said.

Polymarket said its investigation to date had not identified any information to suggest that this user manipulated, or attempted to manipulate, the market. The user has "agreed not to open further accounts without notice", Polymarket said.

Looks like Jeff Bezos sent his executives to meet with Trump and swear fealty.

Oligarchs need to know who is the real boss.

The Washington Post - Opinion - For The Post, the wrong choice at the worst possible time   (written by a disaffected recent member of their Editorial Board)

The owner of The Washington Post, multi-millionaire Jeff Bezos, has made the self-serving and controversial decision not to endorse a Presidential candidate this year, for the first time since 1976.

More than 2,000 angry Post readers have responded, many cancelling their subscriptions.

One reader's comment:

"Personally I refuse to vote for a presidential candidate that wears makeup and large sanitary napkins, that's why I voted for Harris."

Worth framing.   🙂

I don't want to double-post, so I recommend you read this post of mine on the Trump thread and the potential implications of this election cycle.

I cant believe the ignorance of that lady campaign manager for Don saying its ideaology based in "Socialism". She must have only just googled it and saw the word "Socialist" in the little austrian mans party of the 30s.

Rogan was all in love with Trump, trading Conspiracy theories. The guy has serious cognitive dissonance issues. Rogan hasnt been the same since he got Covid and CNN did to be fair troll him. Now hes anti main stream media. Rogan is a strong supporter of RFKjr and the anti vax stuff which is so dangerous. He doesnt seem to know how much human life extension they have given us. Kamala imo should go on, its massive exposure and to fair to him Rogan was pushing back on Trump saying he wants to get to know her and sounded sincere in his intentions.

So early voting isnt quite going to plan, but its too early to tell, Dems are well ahead in some swing states, others much closer. all it tells me is people didnt early vote like they did in 2020 but that was largely due to Covid.

What does 2020 swing-state early voting tell us about 2024? Not much. - The Washington Post

A lack of a clear winner in early voting usually benefits the (frankly lazy) Democrats.

By reputation, Republicans always vote, in particular aged voters.

Of course, winning the popular vote doesn't mean a heck of a lot.

The electoral college and the Senate (2 representative per state) are both design features from the very inception of the US to benefit rural and lightly populated states.

There's nothing specifically in the US constitution about political parties.

There are several reason why there's a binary choice between only two parties. You do see apologist arguments that this benefits the voter because it "simplifies" voters choices and is less confusing. I guess the same people would like eating at a restaurant daily that only offers two unchanging meals.

The U.S. uses a "first-past-the-post" or "winner-takes-all" electoral system, where the candidate with the most votes wins. This system tends to favor larger parties and makes it difficult for smaller parties to gain traction.

Stringent ballot access laws in many states make it challenging for third parties to get their candidates on the ballot.

Redding California has the reputation for being the most Republican towns in California. The county named Shasta is also considered very Republican.

There was a joke that once a democrat who moved there, but a year later moved away.

The felony penalty for voter fraud is up to 4 years in prison. A misdemeanor voter fraud is possible worse, as it's a year in a very typically unpleasant county jail.

If you tamper with a voting machine in California you're open up to even more serious charges of cyber-crime.

Callifornia landlord fired after allegedly committing voter, mail fraud in Reddit posts

A former Redding landlord is in hot water today after recent Reddit posts he made were shared across the app.

Charles Pierce is a 70-year-old former landlord of the Manzanita Manor Apartments in Redding. Pierce says he was fired from his role after his reddit posts came to light.

Pierce told Action News Now that under a now-deleted account, he posted that he received mail-in ballots of four previous tenants at the Manzanita Manor Apartments.

In a post to Reddit, Pierce claimed that he used all of the four ballots to cast votes for former President Donald Trump, and to vote "no" on all rent control and school bond measures in Shasta County.

Yet again, election fraud is carried out by - shock horror - Republicans 🙄

Makes me wonder why they're always so quick to jump up and down screaming "election fraud" when they're the ones perpetrating it themselves!

Projecting? Certainly Trump is a Projector.

How do you cast a fraudulent vote without Registering first? Sure maybe some people not purged could be used. But you cant vote without Registering so I think this whole argument by Don and Elon (and probably Mr Conspiracy, Rogan) is pretty lame, It could be projecting.

Good to see Penn be far ahead early, sure it will even up but its good to bank votes early.

I have a feeling if Harris does win, its going to be with two Sun states and possibly losing a blue wall state.

So funny listening to Don on Rogans podcast saying I shouldnt say this, I will get in trouble. Then went on to talk about Partisan polling. I think the pols are both a mix of outlier Partisan polls and many pollsters trying to avoid being so wrong the last two elections. and then on top a lot of the higher quality polls I respect are historically margin of error in "bias" of Repub Not many are blue outliers

She has to go on Rogan imo. I dont think he will be heavy handed sounded to me like he genuinely wants to get to know her. So many Trump trolls trying to say no way she could go on there like Don, she would get chewed up etc. So many brainwashed Brogans. I think its worth the risk as it gets a lot of exposure and will prove she can talk politics with a maga guy and show the remaining undecideds which is still high, that she has a lot for everyone including real Republicans in her party.

But she has to talk Economy until the end now, that is #1 what republicans doing it tough winna know about hers and hss and get some of these world leading economists in to briefly show what each economic policy is predicted to do

Sitting with Liz Cheney and M Obama talking abortions is not moving the chain she already has that base. Undecides simply are angry about the economy and cost of living and that why its all she should be proving why hers is far better for them.
