Hi Just want to share this as it is something I feel strongly about, and just want people to be informed!!

Point England Development Enabling Bill

Do you use this reserve? Do you want to use it in Future?

Well, that could change, this bill is currently before parliament and the Recreation Reserve land could be rezoned for housing. You are now informed, Make sure you are head!!!

More details can be found on the bill below:
•    The purpose of the bill is to take 11.69 hectares of Recreation Reserve land in Tāmaki in east Auckland and allow housing development on the land.
•    They are already intensifying this area and surrounding areas, and now it is proposed taking these green areas away.
•    It was announced in the house on 7th December 2016 and submissions have to be made by Tuesday, 31 January 2017.
•    This could be a precedent for a reserve near you!!!

Please help us keep this as reserve land!!

Where do I sign to turn ALL of it into housing, not just what they are proposing?

Privatising public land?

The traffic in that area is already more than bad enough and they want to add more people and reduce the green space.

Bad planning. This will be more short-sighted non-thinking from the government in Wellington.

As far as I understand, the land is part of the treaty settlement with Ngati Paoa. The iwi are the ones undertaking the development, not central or local government.

On a more serious note, I favour reserves. Quality of life and all that. I don't favour the TL:DR posts in bold to put forward a protest.

This - it's part of a treaty settlement. Not sure how that is 'short sighted non-thinking from the Government in Wellington'? If the Iwi then own the land, what they do with it is up to them. Furthermore, 20% of it will be social housing, another 20% will be affordable housing.

Just for the record. Although I am against the bill I am not trying to sell this to you. I am merely trying to inform you as not many people know about this. You make up your own mind. If you think the government or the media know what is best for you, then that is your choice. Sometimes it and sometimes it's not. All I am saying is to at least question it, or give it some thought. Also, I am not against housing.

If a private group are willing to take some of that and build housing to relieve some of the pressure up in Auckland and this is not at the behest of the council or government then I can't see the problem with it. At least someone is thinking about others and planning for the future.

It sure does, can't wait for the development news from Port Auckland though. Social housing making up a decent percentage of the new builds will be great for Auckland.
