Everyone seems to be preoccupied with the latest mass shooting tragedy in the USA, but these are now happening on more than a daily basis and my outrage has been exhausted. Until Americans grow a brain, or balls, it will just continue to be the same old same old. Being mown down when you are just buying an ice cream is a horrible thing to have happen and I am not minimising the awfulness of this, but it just keeps happening. What is one to do?

So my attention has turned to Hong Kong, which is in the process of becoming an even bigger tragedy. The Chinese authorities never back down. There are no signs that the protesters will. This is going to make Tiananmen Square look like a picnic. I have been to Hong Kong and it deserves better than what it is about to get. I weep for the place and the people  there. This is not how it was supposed to go.

One might have expected that the leader of the US might have offered some support for a democratic movement.
Nope. He called out the protestors for being "rioters", thus giving moral support to the Chinese Communist Party who quoted him on their state-controlled media propaganda machine.

I think you have pretty high expectations of the leader of the US. Maybe in the past, but not now. The Chinese army can move in and crush the protests at any time, and the only thing holding them back at all (not much) is just world opinion. The USA has dropped the ball. The UK is disintegrating. Who else is there to defend the rights of HK? I fear that this is going to end very badly, very soon. As usual, there will be useless hand-wringing and no action from other countries.

Trump will always side with the leadership - even if it's a dictatorship. He doesn't recognise right or wrong.
