Hi guys,

I've just set up the wife's mobile EFTPOS machine from SmartPay - using the D200 and the user interface is absolutely dreadful at best.

For starters, I would've thought that it would connect via Bluetooth to the phone but apparently it uses WIFI and the App we had to download for the iPhone looks like it was made in the 1990's.

Anyone know of a company with a more elegant setup like Square in the US?

Sorry, can't help you with the software part.

While out & about, I saw some nifty terminals from ASB & ANZ. Absolutely no idea about the back-end & related software.

BNZ have a solution that's specifically set up for small business: BNZ Payclip

Haven't used it personally, but have heard good things from merchants that have used it.

We have that machine from ASB. The SmartPay D200 - the set up felt like something out of the 90's.

The iOS app felt like one of those 1st Gen App Store Apps that was released in the 2000's.

Hey,

This is in my realm of work! We are Ecosse based in Whangarei, Northland's local EFTPOS & POS supplier!

There are two options available to you for mobile EFTPOS.

Firstly are those bank supplied Bluetooth terminals like what you have. They are ok if you need to take a payment or two once a week, these are not good for high throughput nor are they ideal to rely on given there are multiple failure points.

Then there is what I supply, Fully fledged standalone mobile EFTPOS terminals that run off the mobile 3G/2G network. Pick Spark, 2Deg or VF.. These start at $50+GST per month depending on the caliber of unit requested. I only offer these on the Paymark network, keep in mind you will still be paying them for your merchant number.

If you'd like to have a chat about an EFTPOS terminal I can most definitely assist! I am Northland based, we do supply as far south as Timaru! I am also happy to pass recommendations!

0212539110 is my work ph, feel free to ask any questions.

Cheers

The D200 we have looks like it runs off WIFI? Which is silly because the wife would have no idea how to set it up when shes in her practice. At the moment I got her to set it up as a mobile hotspot on her phone.

Secondly she probably needs to process up to 30 transactions per week so what would you recommend?

My recommendation: Scrap the phone reliant device immediately and go with an all in one solution. Lookup VX680, V240M, IWL255 as an example.
She is doing 30 transactions a week, so it is not like a Cafe where there is a line out the door the moment it slows down but still enough that she needs ease of use. 30 hotspot configures a week is a bit tedious and it also would smash the phones battery.

Is she moving between physical practices?
If she is based at a single practice, can you ask them to setup multi merchant on their terminal they have now?
If she wants her own mobile terminal, PM me and I'll fire you a quote and suggest a local option if I have a partner where you are.

Thanks

She's in two physical mobile location usually, it's her first day having a go at the unit so I'll report back to see if she has any issues.

Reliability and time to process is pretty important as her customers don't really want to be waiting her to connect it to her phone, she has better things to do and new clients/patients to see.

The machine will need to have batteries and need to connect to her phone via Bluetooth ideally.

How does the machines you suggested deal with power and data usage?

Hey,

Given her requirements I can only suggest she gets her own.

The Verifone 240M would be perfect for her.
Good battery life, very mobile, easy to use. Completely independent, she can use this from Invercargill to Cape Reinga.
Uses a single 18650 cell, If you get an EFTPOS terminal from myself it comes with network access via a M2M sim on your choice of the big 3 networks.  (Very long story short it just works and won't stop, it's included in the lease)

I see you noted about connecting to her phone - All the terminals I suggest are INDEPENDENT. (Sorry for being blatant there but you need to differentiate between the two as they are very different.)

My number is above, give me a bell if you'd like to look into one of these from myself, no issues if you go with another retailer!

Cheers

From when I helped a friend set one up some years ago another option if you've only got two locations is to get a standard business one that's been refurbed, there are a ton of EFTPOS refurb places that will sell you these, like ex-rental laptops, for a fraction of the price they cost when new.

Yeah you can buy the hardware yourself, from trademe of equipment decommissioning companies. There are a few issues to do with this however.

Terminals from Verifone and Ingenico have a $5 per month software maintenance fee, If this is not paid through a retailer like myself, the terminal will become a paperweight.
If you need to repair a terminal, you need to go through a reseller like myself.
If you want to put your Paymark Merchant ID on the terminal, you need to contact a reseller like myself so I can RKI it, I won't RKI a terminal that isn't mine as that will be in breech of my Paymark terms.

If you buy one of these units, you can contact a reseller like myself to have this maintained, but you still ahve to foot the bill.
It is easier to lease the terminals over buying them due to the after sales support...
