Once I scan my payWave card, the 4 green lights come on, but then tells me to insert/swipe my card! I cancelled and retried many times, but still the same issue.. So I go to ASB and order a replacement, arrived two days ago, tried today, same problem! That's two different Countdowns that don't work!

Any ideas? Oh, and their system is a Verifone VX820.. like the one below.

I've noticed this with my card, for some reason the transaction would decline with some pinpads - with ASB also, when it works though it works <1s

Did yours get decline? because mine didn't.. It just told me to insert/swipe..

I know with Kiwi bank and ASB cards using some DPS Verifone pinpads can get CSS errors and ask you to swipe the card over using the chip, I talked to DPS about this as it was very annoying for staff and customers alike and we had them swapped out but to fix the problem temporarily we had to power the pinpad off and on again.

The reason I was given is that Kiwibank and ASB use a different chip technology to the other banks which causes the problem, don't know if it could be the same reason for the NFC issue as well?

It was only random pinpads not heaps but these were not NFC pinpads just chip and swipe, I am starting back at that job next month which I am hoping to be replacing all of the old ones with new NFC pinpads I just hope this issue with those cards has not carried over to the NFC technology.
I was just thinking it might be tied to the same ASB Kiwibank issue we had last year as other cards seem to work ok.

Fix's will only happen if people/companies report these issues and it happens enough that people remember.
Then can tie it down to a pinpad and/or the process used to create the error which they will need to pass the details/logs onto DPS/Eftpos NZ/ Paymark etc to find a solution.

Regarding the CSS Error the pinpad will need to be swapped out with a replacement from DPS as its not solvable remotely, I have only seen this problem on DPS pinpads and have run into the problem in petrol stations, pubs, etc and give them the advice on what to do to fix it most of the time falling on death ears as they just want to do their job and go home does not matter that if you fix this problem it will save you time doing the transaction and the frustration of customer who is trying to give you money.

My advice to surfisup1000 is to go and dispute it with the supermarket and if they don't resolve it call the bank and state they have been charged twice and to reverse the transaction.
If they do resolve it as the supermarket try and get out of them if it happens alot with particular cards or not as I am sure it is meant to be a default setting (in the pinpad config not the sales software) to print out a transaction receipt regardless it if was declined or accepted.

It is most likely a problem with the retailer, as other stores I have used Paywave with have worked great.

Asb , I do know friends that had to have paywave activated by calling their respective bank

I have the same issue. PayWave works fine at BP, but at Countdown it always asks for a PIN.

Yeap, that's right.

I have used this multiple times in countdown at self service checkout using mastercard. No problem whatsoever.

I've used it numerous times with my ANZ Paywave Visa as well with no issues.

It's looking like a problem with ASB cards, I have not paid attention to the Eftpos provider at BP but if it's a different company thn what countdown are using it would be more an issue with the card over the pinpad, I have Kiwibank which works fine have not tried the Air NZ air points card yet but might give it a go this week and have a UK card that is nfc enabled too i might try out.

The only other thing you could try and put it down to would be it is a visa paywave or MasterCard pay pass issue, I know BNZ use paywave as well so would need to see if any of them are having issues too.

Speaking of paywave. What eftpos providers are holding things up? I know when I asked smartpay who support works cadmus branded terminal about getting NFC and something not as slow as a sinclar computer they didnt have anything to offer.
