I've used it numerous times with my ANZ Paywave Visa as well with no issues.

Same with my ANZ Paywave Visa, I've used it multiple times at Countdown, Kmart & Bunnings - both times at Kmart I was told I was the 1st person to use it :)

I find the mere fact a major NZ retailer has NFC support exciting. NZ really is stuck in the payment dark ages compared to Aussie when it comes to Paywave/Paypass terminal support.

I have all sorts of issues with my ASB Visa Debit using Paywave at BPs all over. I'm at the Jervois Rd one a lot, quite frequently it'll fall over completely and other times ask for my PIN.

I know when I asked smartpay who support works cadmus branded terminal about getting NFC and something not as slow as a sinclar computer they didnt have anything to offer.

Looking at their website they don't offer a terminal that supports nfc payments, the only thing holding them up will be having the product to offer.
Saying that McDonald's have contactless pinpads but nfc is not enabled.

INZ really is stuck in the payment dark ages compared to Aussie when it comes to Paywave/thaPaypass terminal support.

It could come down to the contract with the current pinpad's has just come to an end for the retailers that have it now.
Also could be down to the providers charging more for the nfc enabled pinpad's over the basic ones, that was one hindrance we had last year.

One place I worked the contract was for 4 years which would hinder the upgrade process unless you broke the contract.

Used Paywave once at Countdown with my ASB Visa no problem. It only works up to some very small figure, $20 I think the operator said, above that it makes you put your card in or enter a PIN.

Been using my kiwibank mastercard card and it works no worries at bp and countdown the lady at countdown was confused though and asked what i did as she had never seen it before. So i don't think they have had any training on it.

McDonalds were the first retailer in NZ to trial Paypass in the early days with ANZ. The functionality was then disabled and to this day McDonalds won't tell anybody why.

I was also intrigued by the new Oporto store in Wellington having some brand new colour DPS ipp350 terminals that feature colour Paywave and Paypass logos on the LCD screen. I tried to use Paywave on it to be told by the staff member that "it is disabled because it's a security risk". I'm sure Visa or MasterCard would love to comment on that..

Talking of terminal contracts both MasterCard and Visa are still very keen to see the mid 2014 target of every credit card capable terminal in NZ supporting NFC payments to still happen. I don't know how they will meet this when there is such a poor range of NFC capable terminals in NZ. There are still a lot of old terminals out there though, and a lot of retailers who will need to upgrade to meet the EMV6.0 standards. I still find it amazing how many old Provenco T7 terminals still exist - these don't even require a chip card to be inserted and allow the MSR to be used for transactions.

The only NFC enabled card I have is an ANZ Visa Debit. This works fine at BP - super fast approval, but whenever I try to use it at countdown it seems to recognise the card as valid but then says Insert Card and wants to process it as a chip with pin - even for small transactions of $10 or so.

Well, the thing is they asked me this --- the first time, I did not really look at the screen, I waved the card and it beeped.

The second time --- 'accepted' did flash on the terminal but it was so quick, probably less than 1/2 a second.

Actually, I'm impressed with the speed -- the operator simply didn't believe it had gone through because it was so quick.

Anyway, all sorted out now. They said this has just been newly introduced at the store and there have been a couple of teething issues.

I wonder if there is something configured with the BIN ranges not allowing debit cards to be used for NFC transactions?
