I got the email too. Basically everything about me has been taken except the photo of my licence. The email provided a link to have my licence replaced at their cost so I’ll go ahead with that.

I think the issue is you'll get a new licence with the same licence number? So you only need to replace it, if the photo has been compromised?

So your email from them specifically said your drivers licence had been taken? The two emails I have seen make no mention of drivers licence.

Yes, my driver licence number and the version number. My wife got one but no mention of her licence either although she’s had hers replaced anyway due to it expiring recently. If your email doesn’t mention your licence you can probably safely assume it’s not compromised at this point.

The version number is part of what’s been taken which is why it needs to be replaced and why the email had the link.

The e-mail didn't say anything about the image being stolen, but they have all the other details they need to stuff my credit rating. I've filled in the NZTA form to get a new license made, looks like it'll just have a new version number.

I still haven't received any form of notification from them, I wonder if I ever will.

I haven't either but I used my nz license which had expired and I've got a new one which isn't the same as their system.

mrdrifter: I still haven't received any form of notification from them, I wonder if I ever will.

My problem is, I think my contact details are out of date, so don't know if they can get hold of me. Several contact attempts from me & I still haven't heard from them. 😡

Just saw somebody else notification

  • Your personal information which, where applicable, includes your full name, address, date of birth and phone number
  • General financial information that was used to assess your personal loan application which, where applicable, includes details about your employment, income, expenses, assets and liabilities

😡😡🤬 That's a lot of info not related to my finances & can be used in social engineering scams many years later. 🤬

Has anybody complained to the Privacy Commissionar & gotten a useful response?

Has anybody complained to the Privacy Commissionar & gotten a useful response?

I have, and got a clear template response:

Kia ora Michael

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Latitude Financial Services (Latitude). I acknowledge how distressing this situation must be for you.

I understand you will have received a letter from Latitude setting out the steps it has taken in response to this incident. These include replacing identity documents, engaging with IDCARE Support, establishing a dedicated contact centre, and providing mental health support details.

We are reassured by the proactive measures Latitude has put in place following the breach. The agency has also appropriately notified our Office and informed you of your right to make a complaint to us.

Latitude has outlined the precautionary steps you can take to lower the risk of your information being potentially misused. Importantly, these include checking your credit record, requesting that the credit reporters place a suppression on your credit file, staying alert to any phishing scams, and regularly updating your passwords. I strongly recommend you follow this advice and Latitude has explained how you can do so in its letter.

Please also note that Latitude’s recent update on 27 March 2023 provides further information and guidance regarding the recent cyber breach.

If you have any remaining concerns or want to discuss this in more detail, you will need to engage with Latitude directly. You can contact the agency via its dedicated contact centre at 0800 777 885. I am hopeful that Latitude will be able to address any outstanding issues you may have and provide you with helpful advice to assist you going forward.

If Latitude’s response does not resolve the matter, then you are welcome to come back to our Office and we will consider next steps at that time. If you choose to do so, please provide copies of any further correspondence you have with Latitude about this matter.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and I wish you all the best.

I suspect the privacy commissioner will be totally smashed with complaints like mine.

With the way things have been going, and the way Latitude are slowly admitting what has been compromised, do you still trust Latitude at this point to be able to accurately confirm it has not been exposed?

I would not.

As a few posters have mentioned, it depends what details were stolen, if it's just the number, then you're ok to keep using it, as far as I know, a new licence only results in a new version number. So I guess that's why the photo is important, as I don't know if many institutions record the version number as well.

As to your second point, well I've heard from a former insider, it might be far worse than reported. So there's not much I can do personally other than being vigilant and having my credit file checked periodically.

I've seen an increase is spam texts generally related to toll payments pretending to be from Waka Kotahi which I suspect is as a result of this breach.

I'm in a quandary,
I was a Latitude/Gem customer with both loans and CC's up till about 3 years ago.

But I've both moved house and changed email address.
(so they have no way of contacting me)

Do I contact them, and give 'them' my current details (exposing my details to their 'next hack' - think last pass.... )

Or do I just assume my details have been leaked and compromised and there is nothing I can realistically do - But at least it didn't include my current email and address details?

It is better to assume your details were obtained, than remain ignorant waiting to be contacted like some people seem to be choosing to do. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

At the very least renewing your license is a small $43 cost, vs your identity being used and your credit rating ruined because of it..

I have not received any emails from Gem Visa regarding if my details have been leaked yet. Co-incidentally my driver's license was up for renewal in 2 months' time so I just went to AA office and got it renewed today incase my license details are part of the leak.

Do whatever you want to do man.
