I'm looking at making a move to Quic however I see some posts about people having issues with IPv6 - how are things going at the moment in terms of reliability? there was mention of someone having an issue with IPv6 (mentioned by someone else i another thread) - I'm currently using an UXG Max on DHCP so I assume that isn't going to be an issue.

It will depend on your router and location. It's a fault that has manifested in WLG, and it's with vendor for fixing. It only affects a small number of customers using Mikrotik, and there's a workaround for it.

As suggested by some here (and elsewhere), DHCP is convenient but because of sessions are handled changes can take time. PPPoE seems to be more stable and changes can be quickly done. I'm certainly happier with my setup since changing from DHCP to PPPoE.

Juts received an email from Skinny saying they're increasing my broadband plan from $68 to $90, so also looking to move to Quic. (To be fair I've had a pretty good run at that price for the last 7 years).

I have a Google Nest Wifi Pro mesh set up. Am I likely to having any issues moving across with it or should it just work?

Thanks

How are you connected? Do you use DHCP or have to use a username/password? Which VLAN?

If you keep the same settings (DHCP or PPPoE, VLAN 10 or VLAN untagged) when requesting with Quic, it should just work without change.

I was on PPoE but switched to DHCP recently when that became an option, just for curiosity. So currently on DHCP.

I don't see any option or settings for VLAN on the Google Home App.

Skinny doesn't use VLAN 10 anyway.

You can just request the Quic service with DHCP, no tag and it should just work.

Thanks for this tidbit - I have Skinny at our bach and am looking to change from Skinny's fibre 500 plan to Quic's Walker 100 plan to save a bit of cash.

I have the Skinny/Spark Smart Modem 2 and it was just plug & play at the time of connection, but because it's currently 400kms away, I don't know what settings the router actually has right now, and therefore whether to order "Untagged" or "VLAN10" with Quic.

Based on what you've said above, should I be ordering "untagged", meaning I shouldn't need to shag around with any settings?

You'd think I'd know this lol

It should work. Or you might have an 800-km round trip in the future.

If your Bach is in a Chorus area, can't you just look at the active ASID on the ONT and see if UNI Tagging is on/off?

You do work for Chorus :)

Out of interest, why wouldn't you just change to Skinny's cheaper ($55/month) plan?  No config changes, needing to touch the router,  etc.  Just login to Skinny account and change your plan.

I'm quoting freitasm's post, but this reply is aimed at anyone choosing between DHCP and PPPoE.

I went to DHCP because it felt "cleaner" but ran into Synology issues. It also caused issues with my remaning Windows computer, where the connection would appear to stall for no apparent reason. I was able to work around this by faffing with MTU settings.

I'm still on DHCP, but just be aware that you might need to fight with it a little. PPPoE is probably a better choice if you want a "set and forget" system.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that $55 plan is 4G / Wireless and not UFB like Quic's Walker plan.

So it would require another router.

there is no $55 ufb plan. Skinny only offer 2 x ufb plans (500/100 and 855/500)
