Davoid:

With Spark having increased the Fibre cost by $5.00 a month, it looks as if it is time to make the move to Quic. I would look at moving a week or two before Spark contract ends.

My ONT connection for Spark is through the GE1 connection on the Chorus Model 200 ONT, I believe I can request for Quic to use the GE2 connection so I still have access if needed to use Spark via GE1, is this correct? Does using another connection cause speed or connection issues and can you request to change back to GE1 with Quic after all is working well?

Hopefully Quic are not increasing there price in the near future.

Thanks for any advice,
David
(I use an Asus RT-AX5400 router)

when the fibre conditions were drafted back in the deep dark past of 2009/10, it was baked in that prices could go up annually by mixing cpi+inflation - normally about 3-6% per annum. It took out of discussion the possibility of the big boys getting better prices than the little ones - equality - and removed at a stroke any semblance of negotiation. This provided some planning relief for the LFC’s. but also means that just like council rates annual rises just happen. Maybe in the future this will be removed once fibre is no longer regulated, but that is not today.

all wholesale fibre prices will continue to rise annually. 5% is a lot to absorb when a $100/month connection is costing you $75 to provide and maintain service on.

It may have taken me awhile, but have finally signed up with Quic starting 1st September, have chosen to use second port to give me time to make sure all settings working correctly. Have kept my Spark account active to give me a month to sort out any possible issues.

Thank you to all that have helped and given advice,
David

Sorry forgot to mention a thank you to michaelmurfy as I used his discount code when signing up.

I have received a text from Chorus about a few things to do before remotely switching on the second port, I assume I connect the network cable to the GE2 port once the Quic connection starts on the 1st September?

Thanks again Michael,
David

Other than plugging in your router to port 2, you don't have to do anything else with respect to Chorus' text message.

I just had Quic livened on port 2 of my ONT this morning at 7am, port 1 is still Spark, after placing the order ~10-11pm last night. Automation ftw.

I also received that text from Chorus about things to do this morning, however I had already plugged in the additional cable into port 2 the previous night and woke up to Quic already working on WAN2 on my UDM Pro Max.

I switched from Skinny to Quic earlier this week. Literally moved the LAN cable from port 1 to port 2 on the ONT and the reconnection happened within seconds. Job done.

switch over from Skinny to Quic this morning

Very seamless. Still have the PPPoE credentials from Skinny, so obviously the credentials don't really matter.
