Hi guys, this is the new thread about the N95's software and GPS functions.

This is the thread leading on from the other N95 thread.

Obviously this thread is going to get pretty busy as the N95 comes on stream.
I am picking the big discussions will centre around the GPS function but also the pending software update and general software/application issues will be important. Perhaps this thread should be kept for GPS and start another on firmware updating and others on whatever topic is important, camera, apps etc? What do you think?

Yea, good idea.

I'll create them now and post them on here when I'm done.

Looks good!

BTW, I think you have tried Sport Tracker as well as MGMaps, did you notice any difference in the aquisition speed for the gps?
I did, ST seems to lock very quickly while MGMaps takes much longer so its not necessarily a hardware thing.

I haven't actually used MGMaps, I have only used the demo on their website but I am going to download it today. I have noticed that ST is very fast to lock on as well.

I'll get back to you with what I find.

Anyone updated their firmware like to comment on the end result? Still no update for my model and just wondering if it is a worthwhile task.

Still no sign of updated NZ map and I see on the Smart2Go site that Australia is listed as having navigation capabilities but not NZ, hope this changes when the phone is officially on sale here.

I updated my firmware.  My set is from Singapore.  It updated like a charm:)

Camera performance has improved - no more red tinge!

Also, slightly faster when accessing menus.

I uploaded the maps last night and it works OK, though very limited. Still it's more than ample for myself.

I wish I knew where my phone is from though, Is there a mass-product code checking utility?

Just tried updating again, still no update available for the APAC product so I am presuming you changed your product code? What did you change it to? Mine is 0548986.
Have you had any negative issues since the update?

Thanks.

You can run NSS to get your product code but I dont know how you relate that to where your phone is from :-(

Mine is the same product code, Do you know ehat country of origin it is?

I asked for "China" but am not sure.. There are no strokes on the keypad but Chinese test-entry works.

I could change the product code (nemesis) but will not post the list here as the mods go nuts about "codes" There seems to already be an "nz" branded version of software available, mate was playing around with it but i'm not daring in case I lose features and cannot get them back.

I'm about to change the product code. I am, however, very worried that something may go wrong. Oh well, I hope it doesn't stuff up. Finger crossed although people say that the product code alone, is a very simple procedure.

HELP!

I have changed my product code, but the languages available haven't changed. I tried EURO 1 and FRANCE

The available languages on the phone should change with the product codes right? The languages that I have are "English, Pilipino and Indonesian."  These aren't the languages that EURO 1 should support or the languages that FRANCE should support.

Can anyone help me out?

Many thanks in advance.

Changing the product code does not change the software on the phone. Its just an identifying code that identifies what market area the phone is for.
As I understand it, the current firmware update is only for the Euro market and you need to change your product code to "fool" the updater into letting you download the new firmware.
Good luck!

Thanks, I would like to be able to set my phone to display French, how would I do this (if you know). Thanks. EDIT: To anyone who has updated their firmware with the EURO 1 product code, what are your lanuage options on your phone now because I was just thinking about it and I though that the avaiable lanuage may change with the new firmware because it was designed for the European market. I hope this is the case as I am a little aprehensive at changing my firmware because of the risk invloved and because the firmware is for the European market, it may give you different lanuage options. Thanks.
