Hi I’m looking at getting a projector but can’t decide which to get, at the moment I’m looking at the following 2 Epson EMP-TW1000 and Panasonic PT-AE1000, mainily due to be reasonable priced native 1080p.

Any hints or tips on what I should look at, checkout would be appreciated.

They seem to think the panasonic is pretty impressive! It also seems that our very own Cyril has commented on that thread so he will probably have more to say about it all..

I had looked at the Panasonic also but wasn't sure I wanted LCD. I guess you have to make a technology decision and then look at the choices

LCD - potential screen door effect but should be better with 1080 resolution
DLP (various types of) - rainbows but if you can shell out for the ones with 3 colour wheels or no wheels at all then that's fine
LCoS (only really available from Sony and JVC and quite expensive) - cost only the issue here

Just be aware that 720p is the sweet spot for projector pricing at the moment but 1080p prices are likely to fall. You could purchase a good 720p projector now and opt to upgrade to a 1080 model, several generations advanced, in a few years and likely still have change left over from current 1080 prices.

Hi Drac,

These projectors are very similar in spec; contrast, brightness, resolution, 3LCD, etc and pricing is about the same. Both respected brands and they both sell well. You won't go wrong with either of them.

The main difference is sharpness; the AE1000 is softer due to panasonic's smooth screen technology. Some prefer this as looking more like film vs the sharper epson (and other LCD projectors). It is a personal preference thing - you should look at both and decide what you like better.

They are both about to be superceeded (internationally anyway), the TW2000 is shipping now in Asia and the new panny will be out by the end of the year.

If you want to get into the detail have a look here: www.avsforum.com/avs-vb

Good reviews on both : http://www.projectorcentral.com the reviewer is an LCD fanboy
