According to the manual you are suppose to be able to record 2 channels and watch another with Sky HDi.  However when I tried to do this it does not let me.  A message advises that I need to cancel one of the channels I am recording hence I am only able to watch one channel and record another.

HDi at present only has two tuners. The hardware supports 4 and Sky have said these which will be enabled later in the year. 3 tuners will be for viewing/recording and the 4th for downloading PPV content.

As to why Sky launched the product with only 2 appears to be a bit of a mystery.

You can record two and watch a pre-recorded program. Can't watch a third channel.

This is what the original poster was querying. If you refer to the MySky manual pg30 says that it is possible to record two channels and at the same time watch a 3rd channel. This is not currently possible however.

Sky's website has an addendum here  advising of the current limitations. This will be resolved later in the year with a firmware upgrade which allows the 4 tuners to be used.

I agree.  False advertising on SkyTVs part.

What are they advertising? The only HDi advertising I've seen refers to the ability to watch a channel while recording another. Are Sky claiming somewhere that you can record two channels and watch a third?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I haven't seen the ad saying you can record two, and watch a third. Are you sure the ad doesn't say record two while watching a pre-recorded show?

I can understand an oversight in the manual, but airing an ad.. yeah, not good.

The ad is a bit misleading, they don't say the third program has already been recorded. But it has (listed on the planner menu on the ad).

It's not an oversight as an addendum has already been made available.

The 4 tuner functionality will be made available later in the year and right from the initial media launch in June Sky have made it very clear that only 2 tuners would be enabled at launch.

As to why it's not available now is something only Sky can answer and they don't seem to be very forthcoming with an answer. Rumors are it's something to do with Foxtel (who have the same box).
