At $888 you may as well spend extra and go the Panasonic. Bit of a rip off to be honest,especially as JB in Aus have it for $596.
Sony 77" A80J OLED, Panasonic UB820, Panasonic BD-T460, Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen, Samsung Q990D Soundbar
I'm going to hold off util the PS4k comes out. Will probably out-perform the other brands.
The RRP for the Panasonic UB900 has just dropped $200 to $999.
Love the idea, but not the best bang for your buck me thinks; I'm loving the up-scaled FHD BluRay on my Samsung KS8000. If you want to see 4K content and have a decent connection try Netflix plus Youtube through your TV and search for 4K there are some really amazing videos out there using HDR.
With the HD Fury Integral being released, it looks like my pre-condition of the DRM having been rendered ineffective has been met.
I did watch some 4K content at JB the other day, on one of their top-line 60" demo units. The picture was gorgeous but, to be honest, with my eyes if you had told me it was only 1080P on a number of scenes I would have believed you. The picture is better but, for practical purposes, not that much better.
While I will likely upgrade eventually, based on high hardware prices and the limited and only slowly growing availability of content, I suspect that the 2017 Christmas sales will be the earliest point. (Plus, recent house renovations over-ran the budget by a wide margin, and have temporarily annihilated my finances
)
Just played with the Samsung and Panasonic players side by side in the two identical 4K/HDR TVs with identical picture settings and the picture is.... identical.
Anyone who says one is better than the other in terms of picture quality is mistaken.

So it turns out the PS4 Pro (Neo) won't have a 4K UHD drive. Massive oversight, I'm not sure who would be willing to shell out $600+, it can't even play 4K UHD discs.

Yeah I read that! crazy of Sony, but I guess they have their own stand alone players they want to make money off too. Xbox it is I guess.

Yeah I read a statement the issued this morning by explaining they left it out because streaming is the future. I have fibre and can stream 4k but ALOT of people can't and even the stuff I can stream on Netflix isn't the same quality as the stuff on discs obviously. Really bad decision making considering they have some of the first to market 4k discs out and have been pushing the format.
I find it hard to believe that a 4K stream, would look or sound anything like a 4K disc. Current 1080p streams don't look anything near what Blu-Ray does.

Streaming is the future, hence no headphone jack on the new PlayStation.
