The 4K catalogue releases are steadily increasing in price at JBNZ. Each time they get a new batch such as the titles in the above post; they seem to go up by $4.00. JBAU prices are $10 less and can be imported slightly cheaper after adding shipping and about 10% exchange rate.

These latest price rises are a kick in the guts for we loyal collector's, and I, for one will not pay them. Its getting to the stage where importing from Amazon US  (with free shipping offers) is going to be cheaper in some cases. Plus our releases are usually bare bones, one disc in a case offerings, while some of the imports have much more appealing packages.

JBAU prices are, in most cases, cheaper than buying locally, even after taking into account the difference in exchange rate and shipping. For instance, the Warner Bros. and Lionsgate new releases through their Australian distributor Roadshow Entertainment are AU36.98 for the Standard Edition with a single 4K disc, but if you are willing to pay an extra AU$3.00 you get the SteelBook Edition for AU$39.98 which includes both the 4K and Blu-ray versions of the film and equates to the best deal overall. Upcoming and recent releases at those prices include Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Twisters, Borderlands, Furiosa, Godzilla x Kong and Dune: Part Two. Buy the same titles from JBNZ and we are looking at NZ$50.98 for the Standard Edition and NZ$60.98 for the Steel.

Both JBNZ and JBAU have regular 20% off sales. I know that its hard to get JBAU to ship older titles to NZ, but they usually can supply newer titles.

I'm still a big supporter of physical media, but I only buy when films that I want are in a sale, but those streaming prices are sooooo tempting. I recently bought A Quiet Place/A Quiet Place: Part II for NZ9.99 from the Apple Store. Both films have Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on board. JBNZ have the 3-Movie Collection upcoming at $104.98 😮

I came to post this exact same thing, and I couldn't have said it better myself. I'd love to support local releases, but it's hard to justify the price when I can get the same titles much cheaper from Amazon AU or JBAU, especially with international tax deductions (JBAU) and free shipping (Amazon over $60). For example, I recently bought the Ted Lasso Blu-ray from Amazon UK for $97, while JBNZ is charging $150 plus shipping for pre-orders.

I'm with you guys, I pretty much wait for the local sales these days; and if I miss out so be it.

My son decided to get into vinyl a few months ago. I thought that it was a good idea, and it would be great to go back to my youth, where I had an excellent record collection. My flat was broken into, and most of my vinyl was stolen. I still had some left, but when I made the switch to CD, I sold what I had. I actually priced a turntable and I was going to buy a Pro-Ject model, but once I saw the price of records these days, I quickly changed my mind.

I now have a subscription with Apple Music, $16.99 per month gets me just about any song or album that I can think of in uncompressed audio with many albums now available to stream in Dolby Atmos spatial surround sound. If the price of 4K UHD's continue to rise at their present rate, the Apple Movie Store will be my go to for my film habit.

Welcome to the Weekly 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & SteelBook Release Schedule for Friday September 13th.

If and Dredd are our new releases this week. The American Psycho Collection should have joined them, but its marked as "check if it's available" on the JBNZ website, which usually means that it will be available when they get it, but they don't know when that will be, so it could be any time. JBAU have released it this week, along with If, so it shouldn't be far away. JBAU have pushed back the A Quiet Place releases to October 16th, the same as NZ. Several new announcements and some minor adjustments make up the rest of the schedule.

N.B. JBNZ have some imported titles in their various stores, such as Arrow Video and some Disney titles. I only post titles that are available on their NZ website.

You’ll prob also notice how much vinyl stock JB is carrying. There’s so much of it and I can’t imagine it’s moving out the door quick enough. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a crash fairly soon.

I buy more records than movies, and there’s definitely no impulse purchases for either. If I’m paying $80 for a record I want to know I love it. Spotify helpful in that regard. Movies too - reckon I’d only buy favourite 2-3 movies a year, and maybe not even that at the moment. The release slate for both 4k and the cinema is pretty poor at the moment.

Release Date: September 16th: £25 from Arrow Video UK direct.

Arrow Video UK are releasing a 3-Disc 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition of The Chronicles of Riddick (2004). The second film in the Vin Diesel starring franchise, following Pitch Black (2000) and preceding Riddick (2013).

Following the sleeper success of their breakthrough sci-fi/horror smash Pitch Black, writer-director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel reunited for 2004's action-packed The Chronicles of Riddick, an expansive and ambitious sequel that took their eponymous antihero to the farthest reaches of the galaxy.

Riddick (Diesel) is an intergalactic fugitive whose dark past catches up with him when he is lured out of hiding by Imam (Keith David, The Thing), another survivor of the planet of horrors they barely escaped from five years earlier. Now out of the shadows, Riddick is identified by an ethereal emissary (Academy Award winner Dame Judi Dench) as the descendant of an ancient race of warriors who may be the universe's last hope against the Necromongers, an evil army of fanatics intent on bending the world to their will. As enemies close in on all sides, including the ruthless Lord Marshal (Colm Feore, Thor) and his scheming lieutenant Vaako (Karl Urban, The Boys), Riddick finds himself a reluctant saviour of the cosmos, with only his razor-sharp wits and cunning killer instinct standing in the way of total annihilation.

At long last, Twohy and Diesel's hard-hitting outer-space epic has been restored in glorious 4K, with hours of incisive bonus features exploring every detail of this densely-constructed and masterfully-executed mythology.
