I just noticed that JBNZ has finally opened pre-orders for House of the Dragon Season 2. I was eyeing the 4K steelbook, but when I saw the price tag of $87 + $5 shipping, I almost choked!

Then I checked JBAU, and they're selling the same steelbook for $65 + $5 shipping AUD. After accounting for the international tax deduction and converting to NZD, it comes out to around $69.

That's a whopping difference of over $20! Given the ongoing discussion in this thread, I think it's time I switch to doing all my pre-orders through JBAU instead of relying on local retailers.

I really wish we had more affordable options for physical media in New Zealand. But with price differences this big, it's hard to justify supporting local retailers.

I'm starting to wonder whether they've looked at buying habits and seen most purchases are during the 20% off sales and they're factoring that in now. The HotD you mentioned would be $69 with 20% off... Coincidence? 🤷‍♂️

And only $4 difference between SteelBook and Standard Editions. May as well forget the Standard Editions in future

I totally agree with this article. I have cancelled all of my streaming sites. I’ve had at one time or another, Disney Plus, Netflix, Apple TV+ and Prime Video. I hate being controlled by these greedy companies

Adding cheaper tiers with ads I can cope with (and ignore) but adding them to my existing plan then having to paying more to get rid of them - How to alienate existing customers 101...

If I had any sense I'd do the binge and cancel thing, but it never seems to happen.

Disney/20th Century Studios are to release a 4K Limited SteelBook Edition for Alien: Romulus (2024). They will also buck the trend and release a 4K Standard Edition as well; something that they haven't done for their last couple of releases.

Looking closely at the 4K disc, it is labeled as having Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. Apart from the James Cameron films released last year, Disney always go with HDR10 on their discs and Dolby Vision on their streaming platform. Another title from Disney which will feature Dolby Vision is the highly anticipated release of Deadpool & Wolverine

Release Date: December 3rd - No other information available at time of posting.

This truly terrifying sci-fi horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its iconic roots. While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonizers come face-to-face with the most relentless and deadly life form in the universe. Starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu, Alien: Romulus is directed by horror master Fede Alvarez from a screenplay by Alvarez and frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues based on characters created by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. Ridley Scott — who directed the original Alien and the series entries Prometheus and Alien: Covenant — produces with Michael Pruss and Walter Hill.

Alien: Romulus is the start of a new chapter with a brand-new story unlike any other Alien movie that came before it, featuring all-new creatures and characters that are "tense enough to grab you by the throat" (Owen Gleiberman, Variety). Fans can delve deeper into the Alien franchise with all-new exclusive bonus features, including featurettes with filmmakers Fede Alvarez and Ridley Scott, behind the scenes content, and alternate and extended scenes. The 4K Blu-ray will be available in a collectible limited edition SteelBook® with custom artwork and packaging.

Arrow Video are releasing Demolition Man (1993) Limited Edition on 4K Ultra HD on December 9th.

Arrow UK Store [GBP30] - Arrow US Store [US$45]

Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes go head-to-head in this classic sci-fi/action blockbuster from Joel Silver, the producer of Die Hard and The Matrix.

In 2032, arch criminal Simon Phoenix (Snipes) awakens from a 35-year deep freeze in CryoPrison to find a world where crime is almost non-existent - a serene utopia ripe for the taking. With the police no longer equipped to deal with his 90s-style brutality, they revive 'Demolition Man' Sgt. John Spartan (Stallone), the no-holds-barred police officer unjustly sentenced to CryoPrison who originally took Phoenix down. Old-school cop against old-school criminal, settling their scores on the streets of San Angeles? The future won't know what's hit it.

With a supporting cast that includes Denis Leary, Benjamin Bratt, and Sandra Bullock in her breakout role, Demolition Man is an awesome mix of action and humour.

  • Brand new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative by Arrow Films, approved by director Marco Brambilla
  • Includes both the domestic “Taco Bell” and international “Pizza Hut” versions of the film presented via seamless branching
  • 4K Ultra HD (2160p) presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible)
  • Original lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 and Dolby Atmos audio options
  • Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing
  • Brand new audio commentary by director Marco Brambilla and screenwriter Daniel Waters

Just an update on the US Deadpool & Wolverine 4K release. I was under the impression that the film was only going to be available in SteelBook format, but Disney's new 4K offerings are finally getting some TLC.

There will be a Standard Edition to compliment the two SteelBooks, with Dolby Vision instead of Disney's usual HDR10 video. With Alien: Romulus also getting the same treatment, things are looking up. They are both going to be imports, but at least we are getting much better value for money with these editions.
