Hopefully the follow over here soon - $400ish for an XB one S vs $900 for a stand alone player is a no brainer.

Of course the useless retailers will blame it on the market size, the CGA obligations, nasty people implrting without paying GST on it and other fairy tales instead of just admitting that they like to rip off NZers who dare to want to buy current technology.

I emailed JB NZ last week when I saw the price difference in Australia.  No reply as of yet.

JB is right up there with the warehouse as retailers I try to avoid buying online from because of a history of crap service and a terrible web site. But I may reconsider it if these come in cheap enough. Will still have to get something to solve the HDCP 2.2 issue tho.

I'm not blaming JB's - they don't typically make loads and loads of cash on products.

The issue will be with the price that Samsung sell it to them for...

I'd be guessing Samsung dropped the price when the xbox one s came out, because it wasn't that price when I looked 2 weeks ago. The whole reason I don't have one yet.

*This*

Samsung attempt to make as much profit for as long as they can... but then the market shifts and things move massively.

The Aussie market appears to have moved quicker, probably because they've held them longer and have a stock-pile of units that may well be not selling well.

Or.

They've sold through the non-4K units and always had this planned.

No way are these prices right at $800, not to mention the upcoming Panasonic and Oppo ones at $1k. Do they not want these to pick up traction? Why would you buy these if you can get an XBOX One S for literally half the price?

Because the One S only has one HDMI output (two are needed for those who want 4k and to get surround sound using older amps) and because it can't bitstream audio, which means object-based sound like Dolby Atmos or DTS:X isn't supported.
