Keep an eye out for ex demo/shop floor models when new models are appearing or stores close, saved big bucks on an LG C8 a while back, one advantage being they are nicely run in. Can't beat the OLED for picture quality - added a Darbee processor to the Sky box feed - wow!

I thought I'd go this route, but unfortunately in my experience stores are basically selling the TVs at the sale price if not only $250 odd off, for ~3500 hours of use.

Agree with that; In my case it was $2,650 compared with $3,300 they were selling for at the time, ex demo from a JB Hifi store which closed in St Lukes. Came with warranty and haven't had any problems in a year, the saving in this case was just too good to pass up.

Well, I finally had a chance to watch my 1st HDR content with Dolby Atmos in 4K and one I had been waiting to watch for a while.

The Mandolorian.

Holy Jesus the level of contrast and detail is insane. The picture is jaw droppingly good, it reminds me of when I watched my 1st 1080P movie on a full HD screen. Seriously impressed, must say the content is fantastic too. If this is the future of TV and movies then I cannot wait.

That’s interesting you say this re The Mandalorian, as I was seriously critical of the HDR in that. Far too dark, so much so it’s been the only show I’ve had to fart about with settings to make it watchable. This is in a light-controlled environment, and on a TV on which otherwise HDR content looks fantastic (GZ1000). And my criticism is matched by many others, going by my search to see if it was just me!

So the takeaway is you should be even more amazed watching something in which HDR is better implemented!

On further reading it sounds like that maybe a Disney+ issue? I watched an *aquired* copy which looked fine. I'll be watching the 2nd ep tonight so will look a bit closer.

Yeah, I have definitely noticed a lot less tempting deals and big price hikes on a few imported electrical goods. I'm gonna go with a combination of consumer confidence and global supply chain/importing constraints. In saying that, I also just posted about a deal on a Panasonic UB420, so swings and roundabouts hopefully?

I do see this too, and retailers expecting less-educated customers to just refer to the original RRP, making them think that the current (not so great) pricing is deal of the century..

Regardless though, it seems like sales are still going strong - with many just forking up the additional $$ to get whatever they want.

The 2020 sets have come in at major leaps when you compare relative feature sets to the 2019 models.

I keep an eye on the 65" and 75" (go big or go home) sets and a lot of the 2020 models are 1.5x - 2x the price of the ones they replaced, with differentiation on MR (100 rate now basically standard across low-middle whereas before there was a spread of 100 - 200MR sets) and picture processing in some brands. Looks like this pricing is here to stay.

Amazingly some of the 2019 models are still lurking around with almost no real discounting at all - the 2020s have just come in above them.

The GZ1000 is currently $3795 at NL/TheMarket. They are also doing a 15% off on top of that which pushes the price down to $3,314.75.

Not bad at all; although with the business with ComCom and that, it seems to be 50/50 as to whether you will actually get it in stock. They cancelled your order for a C9, right?

Ha ha I'm pretty against them now, unless they're offering the best price by a long shot.

For the record I ended up with a 65Q95T at a similar price to the 65GZ1000. Wasn't keen to wait until the EOY CX sales. Some compromises made but also gained some usefulness out of it.

Received this the other day from JB. Looks like its probably 2019 model, but good price for the size.

Thoughts on something like this? Obviously it's missing bells & whistles

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.
