Cool. Thanks for the links.

I am currently running it using a standard 0.8m micro USB cable plugged into a 1amp wall charger. It's working well, except for being able to actually get anything to 'run' on it. ;)

I also bought one of these cables in the hopes of doing something similar to you - running it off the TV USB ports.

what SD card are you using? im pretty sure thats my problem....

downloading debian now and that raspbmc build you mentioned now and going try those using windiskimage.

also do you just softly insert your SD card? i think its just suppose to touch the pins, dont want to force it in there (it doesnt slide all the way down, but affraid forcing it is wrong and i destroy it :))

Mine is an A-data 8GB SDHC Class 6 (G08GNMC770201).

You need to push it in so that the brass terminals at the end make contact. I think this tells the unit that an SD card is inserted. Not the actual data terminals, rather the two bits of brass right at the tip that touch together when the SD card is in fully.

Let us know how you get on with Raspbmc. Hopefully you don't get stuck at the same multicoloured screen like me.

BTW, are you running at 1080i, or has it reverted down to 480p?
Mine seems to be jumping between 1080i and 480p between power cycles.

have openelec running via that create sd script i mentioned early, easiest way to setup ive found (assuming you have access to a linux box).

video says 1920x1080 @ 60HZ, assuming it was 1080P, but my tv doesnt display this info.

now im just trying to get HDMI sound working....

oh and scanning a large library is really really slow on this thing, makes it pretty unresponsive, but thats a one hit thing (i have 5TB of backed up DVDs on a NAS to scan, all have .nfo etc files so should just be reading those, but still lots of data).

Hmmm... I wonder if a gparted live USB stick will suffice.

if anyone else is having sound issues with connected directly to tv via hdmi, do this

Disable DTS and Dolby compatible receiver in System->System->Audio

video playback seems to be alright, 1080ps playback fine with my quick test.

sadly I couldnt decode video (audio was ok) from my recordings from for the record. they're ts files, and wasnt sure if these will work or not (codecs seem to be in their early days).

couldnt test live tv, since build of openelec available doesnt have that feature.

worked fine using single usb port for power via my tv, with 8GB SD card, logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo (single mini receiver), ethernet.

didnt work when I plugged in my HDMI-CEC adapter from pulse eight. i thought raspberrypis had this feature built it, but looks like openelec build doesnt support this, so cant confirm either way.

interface is a little sluggish and freezes occasionally, but early days so this is to be expected.

boot time is impressive, takes less than 10 seconds, seems like 5 seconds but probably more like 7-8 seconds.

i had it just plugged into my tvs usb, so when tv turned on, rpi turned on, and by the time my tv was ready the rpi was running xbmc a couple of seconds later. really impressed with that.

so things for me to try and iron out
1. no sound in menus, sound in video playback is fine
2. PVR build with 4tr
3. CEC control.

also need to test a usb remote...

Interestingly, when I first hooked my RPi unit up to my TV, the TV was off. Upon applying power to the RPi unit my TV immediately turned on.

So I think the HDMI-CEC functions are there, but maybe there are compatibility issues still to be resolved.

Under peripherals in xbmc system is where you usually configure cec. But the openelec build I have that wasn't there.

Hopefully they just need to add support in and everything should work. My tvs an lg as well and they're annoying with cec support

Anyone having the dreaded keyboard issues? IE: cant log in at the login prompt, no keyboard power, etc.

I've tried different power supplies, checked the voltage across TP1 (it's in spec BTW), I'm also using a powered USB hub to connect my USB devices.

I did get it to boot once with the keyboard working (and only once) today after leaving the Pi off for a few hours. I then rebooted it and it started playing up again :(

I've even reformatted the card and put debian back on - just in case!

What power adapter and microUSB cables are you guys using?

I've been using the USB charger that came with my phone. It's rated at 1Amp.
I'm also using the 1m microUSB cable that came with my phone.

Seems to be working well so far, although I still haven't had enough time to get anything up and running on it to any great extent. But I know that the keyboard is definitely working on mine.

I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1 - Mouse and Keyboard combo.
The wireless receiver is rated to draw 5V 100mA.

im using my kindles usb -> micro usb cable, plugged directly into the tv via the tvs usb port (tried 2 different tvs, LG and panasonic, both worked fine).

also plugged into computer to power it.

havent run into any keyboard issues so far.

ive only tried using the openelec image, havent tried their debian one.

Fired mine up for the first time using the base Debian image. Powered with my kindle USB cable from my PC and everything seems to function as it should.
I'm very much a Linux beginner so still getting to grips with how the different Linux distros have different ways of accessing 'root' permissions but I'll learn as I go.

Encountered one odd problem, in that trying to compose a new message in GMail, using the basic HTML front-end' it wouldn't let me type in the addressee field (didn't register key-strokes), yet I could type in the body-text field and copy from there an paste into the To: field with the mouse...odd.

We're away this weekend so not much further chance of playing with it but it seems to work as promised so far, I'm pretty chuffed.

So many toys...so little time.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Interesting - I'm running OpenELEC on a PC, have a Pulse8 CEC converter, and it works fine. Must be something specific to the RaspberryPi build ?

yeah i believe that build doesnt have the drivers for it. did CEC go into xbmc eden final or is it only in the newer builds?
