They are reasonably good devices except:

They have very little space onboard - Google definitely under spec'd the storage space.

2GB RAM and 8GB storage and a big chunk of that storage is taken up by the OS. It doesnt seem to leave much for Apps or cache.

When I first got it I installed a handful of apps and found at one point it used up all the spare space with cache.

They released an update which did seem to improve the situation a little - it must have tidied the cache a bit better.

My First Gen fireTV had 2GB RAM and 8GB storage and always seems to have heaps of storage free. I would guess their trimmed down version of android must be quite efficient.

If google had even included a microSD slot, that would have been hugely helpful for adding storage, but I guess its built to a price.

(Please don't tell me about buying USB hubs that cost more than the actual device).

Anyway - apart from the space issues they are a good device and maybe if Android 12 is coming they may improve space management.

NB. Not every platform has created Android TV apps. You might be able to run some sites on your android phones and tablets, but for this device there must be a port for 'Android TV' for it to work on the CCWGTV.

Had mine for a few months and have not had any issues with the slim storage however I don't have a lot of Apps installed. I have Disney, Prime, Netflix(for now) TVNZ, 3Now, Youtube, Apple TV and I think thats about it. Its connected to our LG TV and Google TV UI is way superior to LGs WebOS in my view.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I have it connected to a USB hub but not for storage per se but so I can use a wired ethernet connection. WiFi might be okay but mine is stuck in a cabinet so having it connected to my gigabit network helps a lot.

Wonder if that means we'll get a few local more services integrated into the Google TV interface. At the moment, the only local specific one is TVNZ:

Although they aren't personally on my radar until Google actually allows local media content to be integrated into the suggestions - which I doubt will ever be a thing

Well I have a US one and get TVNZ recommendations for suggestions all the time which is annoying since I don't have the TVNZ app installed.

I haven't been able to install TVNZ On Demand and I had to sideload Neon.

Thats odd. I had no problem installing either of those from the official app store.

If you have a NZ version or NZ Google Account then you can find NZ apps. I haven't been able to install TVNZ On Demand and I had to sideload Neon. But I never watch TVNZ on Demand and Neon is pretty average (came free for 6 months with my 2D broadband)

If you have Google registered to a different country you can change to New Zealand as per https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7431675?hl=en which allows you to load NZ apps.

I have all nearly all the NZ market streaming service apps on mine plus a few side loads. I've never had an issue of that nature.

Could you share which hub you are using? I've had some compatibility issues.

Search this topic for "TradeMe" and you'll find the one I used for a year. Also overkill. I used it for Ethernet and camera and an occasional USB sideload. I did not get mic working with the cheap cameras I tried. I've heard mic works with Logitech brand cannot confirm. I think I got the hub onboard audio working details will be in a different post if so.

Does anyone know if the Apple Music app will output Dolby Atmos via the CCwGT? Or does it need to detect an onboard decoder?
