tkr001: Guess so as the app is in the google play store

Just be aware.. Just because an app is in the google play store, does not mean that there is necessarily a version for an Android/Google TV device.

There 'often' is - but someone has to port it for that particular platform/device family.

For example in the UK - Channel 4 and UKTV both have android apps (for phones etc), but plenty of people in that market are annoyed that the platforms have not provided a Google TV version.

They would argue that you can cast from your phone - It seems that works. But no native app - and that is kinda what the CCWGTV is about really.

Stu: Any Android TV/Google TV app. The Play Store will know you're using a Google TV device, as opposed to a phone or tablet.

Is there a way of checking before I buy a Chromecaset with Google TV to see what apps are available? I found a page on the Play Store that seems like it shows this: https://play.google.com/store/apps?device=tv But this only has a handful of apps and is missing all the NZ services.

Which apps did you want? I have all the NZ streaming services plus the usual big names. The only one I had to side load was a modified Freeview live tv app from a smartvu box credit to Matt Huisman.

MrsteveO: I do have suggestions but they are under the home tab. I’ve had it for 12 months and it functions perfectly but the tabs being different just bugs me. I guess it’s factory reset time

Do you have English (New Zealand) as a language option? I do not even after a reset.

Don't hold your breath. I'm still waiting for the English (NZ) option for Google Nest devices and they have been released here for ages now. Don't like the English (Australian) voice and the English (UK) one sounds too posh 😀

I just installed the app from the play store on my CCWGTV. I dont have a login to go any further but its there and installs.

The state of UK smart tv is weird. All those apps exist in phones, tablets, Roku and fire sticks, but not Google tv. So they have the UI, even packaged in a pretty much native android version for the fire stick, yet channel 4 doesn't have a dedicated app for Google tv. We ended up importing a fire stick to use a vpn on and just use the native tv apps or regular Chromecast for normal NZ content. With cec control we don't mind using the Chromecast, basic play and oause works through the tv remote so once we set a program playing we just use that.

Interested to know how this works out. I checked the updater today. Nothing new since Oct 2021.

You took one for the team there. Logging in the apps is the worst part. Maybe ISVs should implement gauth and no-one does. During setup I recall a language choice and no regional choice. Is that correct, and where does it get region or country from?

Yeah signing in to all the apps is a nightmare. You only get to choose language and I assume region is determined by which region assistant is set up for your account?

https://www.androidpolice.com/chromecast-with-google-tv-europe-expansion/

This article clears it all up.  Even devices overseas will be updated to support local features.  The "For You" tab may still not be supported in NZ.

The "For you" tab is supported in New Zealand (as previously mentioned) and also confirmed in the Google blog I linked back when it was announced locally:

"In need of some good movie or TV recommendations? Google TV's For You tab gives you personalised watch suggestions from across your subscriptions organised based on what you like to watch. Google TV’s Watchlist lets you bookmark movies and shows you want to save for later. You can add to your Watchlist from your phone or laptop, and it will be waiting on your TV when you get home. I’d be interested to hear from others whether or not they have this feature. Does your test unit have it?

I have iPlayer and ITV Hub working okay but I had to sideload them. Haven't tried Channel 4. This is on the US version of CCwGTV

Ours sure does.
Most of the recommendations are from TVNZ+ with a few Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ thrown in.

Unit was bought from Australia, and is signed into my NZ google account.
